I have a 50 inch Sony LCD (Model #KF-50WE620) it has one DVI input. I recently bought a new Onkyo Receiver (Model # TX-SR705) with HDMI switching. It has 3 HDMI inputs and one HDMI output.

I hooked up a PS3, an HD cable box, and a DVD player to the 3 HDMI inputs, and connected the HDMI out to the LCD screen using a HDMI to DVI cable.

The TV has a split screen feature which allows you to view two sources at once. Only one source can come from (HD) either a HDMI/DVI/Component and the other must come from a s-video or standard video cable.

What further connections must be made in order to play PS3 on the HD half of the screen with video only, and watch cable or a DVD on the other half with stereo sound?

With my old Yamaha receiver this could easily be done but can this be done on a receiver with HDMI switching?

Keep what you have so far, but also run the standard-def video (and audio) directly from your source (DVD, etc.) to the Sony. I'm not familiar with the equipment you have, but conceptually, this should work. "Conceptually" means I'm arm-waving here. I am presuming that your sources have both HDMI and s-video and/or composite (yellow RCA), and L & R audio outputs.

Select the PS3 as the HDMI input on the Onkyo and whatever standard-def input you want for the other program on the Sony LCD. Set the Sony so it uses the SD program's audio.

As you have it set up now, do you connect both HDMI and audio cables from the source (DVD, etc.) to the Onkyo? Or do you only use an HDMI cable and let the Onkyo decode the audio, then pass that to the Sony? If you do the former, you may have to split the audio so that it goes to both the Onkyo and the SD input to the TV.

If there is only one SD input to the TV, you will need to buy a video switcher and connect the SD video and audio from source to that, then go from there to the Sony. These can be had for cheap at Radio Shack.
