Hey, i got a 42PZ700 recently. Looking to hook up a old receiver, Pioneer VSX-D409, to it just for movies. Is it possible to have the opitical sound cable go from my movie player (not sure if im gonna buy a upconverting dvd player or go all out on a hddvd player) to my receiver and use a hdmi cable from my tv to movie player for the video? That would be just for movies and i was planning on using the tv speakers for everyday use. Also my center speaker kinda sucks and i was wondering if it would be better to turn of the center and just use the fronts and rears. Thanks

Yes you can, the only problem you might have is you might have audio come out of the TV's speakers since HDMI will transmit audio as well as video.
I have to set my TV to mute when I watch a movie otherwise I have sound coming from both.
Another question, will i get audio to my tv if i use a dvi to hdmi cable to run from my hd cable box to my plasma?

No audio in DVI. You need to connect audio separately.
so will i guess worse quality audio cause my hd cable box doesnt have a hdmi input? The only way to get sound to the tv is through rca cables right?

If you're just running stereo anyway, there's not going to be a significant difference between RCA cables and HDMI audio.
Ok i managed to get my cable company to send me a hdmi cable box, wont be here until late next week!!! Can i hook my old standard digital cable box up to my new plasma? and use "just" so that i wont have bars on the sides??? This wont hurt my new tv will it?
