I am new to the flat panel world so if that has been covered then I apologize. I bought the Samsug 4254 about a week ago for a large bedroom. HDMI to comcast cable box and using a monster surger protector is my simple basic setup. I realize there is a difference between a sub $2000 and tv's that are twice as much. Cost was or is a issue so I was happy with the picture quality to price ratio in trying to stay under $1500. My only issue is the noise of what I am assuming are the fans on the rear of the tv. To me, it is loud. Laying in bed with nothing on other then the tv at a low volume I can clearly hear this "buzzing" noise. Should I return it, is there something else in this price range that is not as loud?? Or is it not possible to have a plasma tv that doesnt make this f'ing noise? I do not live in a high altitude enviroment or anything like that. All I want to do is sit in my bed and watch a basketball game in HD without hearing this low buzzing noise, is that unrealistic? I dont play video games or watch dvd's, I just watch sports. In my price range the other options are the LG 42PC5D or the Panasonic TH42PX75U. Any ideas on how to quiet the sound or to return it or whatever are greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading my rant.

You might want to try a surge protector/noise filter it might help reduce the noise. I samsung 5884 along with the surger/filter listed below and have no buzzing.

This item can be had for about half the price listed on the website.

Yeah like I said, I bought a Monster brand surge protector with what they call Clean Power and that did not quiet this noise.

ooo in your post you didnt say you had the clean power i just read the surge only. I might suggest exchanging the tv for another unit. From what Ive read most plasma buzz. My feeling is that its really on the owner and how sensitive they are too sound.

ok so I read thru the thousands of posts about plasma buzzing, I am sorry to be the 1,001 person to post about this. All I want to do is watch tv at a low volume as I am in my bed that is 10 feet away and not hear any friggen buzzing or any noise. Is that just not possible? The tv is less then 2 weeks old, do I just return it and forget about the idea of having a nice HD tv in my room? I read a few posts about samsung techs coming out and using some sort of insulation to solve this issue, true or untrue? I am so depressed about this entire experience.

I have the same TV and don't notice any buzzing. I'm just using a cheap surge protector too. I do tend to watch a lot of HD movies with my receiver on full blast.

The 4254 sets do not employ fans for cooling. It is accomplished by convection.

So if anyone cares to know or is/was in the same boat. I boxed the tv up last week and took it back to best buy. Had them plug it in and hear the buzz for themselves. A magnolia supervisor said the "buzz" was unacceptable and actually was apologetic that this happened. He had 3 in stock and said he would replace it if that was what I wanted to do which I did. Will do this in the future from now on but had them hook it up to a source and plug in the new one before I left and the noise was gone. For anyone that lives in the Metro DC area, the tenely-town BB was the best experience involving help and knowledge of what they were selling that I have ever had. Brought it back home and the noise was gone. This is my 3rd 4254 in under 30 days and knock on wood so far I am very happy with it. I admit I have terrible luck with electronics but learned a lesson, if you arent happy with your tv no matter how small the issue is take it back. Thanks for any advice and suggestions given, this is a great forum.

Just a side note about this TV. When I got my first one (June '07), it had a set of pixels that would change very late causing a trailing effect on the screen. So I exchanged that and got an open box set (only one left of this model at the time) and that had a yellow tint issue. Took that one back to another BB and exchanged it for a new closed box one and it is perfect. Love this TV but I guess the point is they don't seem to be consistently built well.

As said above BB was very understanding and never gave me any flack for returning the TVs, although the issue were pretty obvious.
