I have a samsung 5054 and I am looking at this mount from monoprice: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082801&p_id=3004&seq=1&format=4#feedback
Anyone have an feedback on this mount? I want it b/c I can fit it accross 3 studs. Also, would there be a problem with spray painting it black. Will it make it slick and fall off the wall?

I have this exact mount with my 37" Panny Plasma. There is also a black version (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082801&p_id=3900&seq=1&format=2) so you don't have to paint it black.
However, the wall plate is thin. Using two studs that are 9" apart (the only two I have at that place on the wall), the plate warpped a little when I hung my plasma on it. If your three studs are wide enough, I'd imagine it will be ok for your 50" plasma. Otherwise, it is a very easy mount to install.
Be sure to measure the mounting holes on your TV. The wall plate can only let the mounting brackets spread no more than 30" apart.

The horizontal holes are 23 1/2" apart. So I am ok there. That is not the same one. My link references the WIDE version which is 36" wide. I think it is enough to tie into 3 studs.

I ordered this mount and then switched to the even cheaper non tilting version (PID 3610) when I figured out how much further this one sticks the TV from the wall (4 inches). The non tilting mount puts the back of the TV about 1 inch from the wall, and the back of the bezel about 4 inches from the wall. The tilting version puts the back of the bezel about eight inches from the wall, which is too far to look good, IMO. If you want to stick the TV way up high then you might want the tilting version, but the low profile version works great for me with the top of the set at about 6 feet high.
If you use the right size drill bit and hit close to the center of the stud, four 6mm lag bolts in two studs are more than strong enough to hold a 50 inch plasma.

Does 1"" leave enough room for cables? Can cables break if they are bent?

No problem. The area where you plug in the cables is recessed so you have more than an inch. I've got hdmi, optical, RCA and two antenna cables. I even connected an OTA antenna cable while the unit was still on the wall.
