Is it possible to re-break in a plasma? I have a 50" Panny 6U and it has some IR recently. I fell asleep on the couch a few weeks ago watching a DVD and the menue was up all night. Even with the sleep mode kicking in on my DVD player, I had IR for about an hour. Ever since then, ESPN and other channels with tickers have been leaving IR for a few minutes after I change the channel. The IR is only viewable though when I switch to another source and there is a black screen.

IR should fade with other use. You might want to check your settings and reduce the contrast & brightness, especially if you're using a fixed setting from the set menu. Some of them are off the charts.
My set has a Whitewash feature just for such situations and it has come in handy more than once. On two separate occasions, I fell asleep to the Sin City DVD and awoke to find that hellacious menu...each time probably up for 4-5 hours. Luckily no Burn-in and IR was temporary and gone in a short time.

I do have the Contrast set a bit high, at +18, but any lower and my whites look yellow (warm setting). I have brightness at around +4 and sharpness turned down very far.
it goes away, I just don't want it to become an issue down the road.

Not intended to discount what you're seeing, but I bet the incident just tuned your attention into something that was going on unnoticed.
