View Full Version : Not happy with my 60A3000, its to big!!..whats the next best in the price range?
Junkhead 12-20-07, 03:32 PM first the tv is great for HD, SD is horrible though as i expected, overall though i feel the tv is to big though even though i am 10-12 feet away from it.
I love the look that the LCOS gives me for HD compared to my past samsung(5087w)
any ideas?

The TV is not too big. Just give it time. In fact, THX and SMTPE both recommend sitting closer to your 60" screen.

Think "Theater experience."
If you go to a smaller TV, you will not be able to make out all the detail in the picture and you might as well get a 720P or 768P set if you go below 55" at that distance.

CrossRoad 12-20-07, 03:43 PM Man SD looks great on my A3000. Are you sure you have it calibrated properly? And I am only 7 ft from my 60A3000.

any ideas?Lots of people feel that a display is too big at first, but then you get use to it and wouldn't want it any other way. ;)
A 1080P 61" display is prefect for watching widescreen movies at 10 to 12 feet away. Wait until you see the 2008 Olympic's broadcasted in HD in a few months, you will be impressed!

honestly ive only watched it about about 3hrs total since i got it, i havent measured but i feel its 10-12 feet, at the minimum its 9-10 feet most likely, i will measure later.
But man, SD just looks horrible!
Im going to try to rearange my living room i guess, but theres really no other way to lay it out to gain distance.
(also i dont like the viewing angles from the sides)
If anything i would switch to the 55" version which is not available instore or what im kinda leaning to is HLT5687S
But that motion enhancement stuff is great i must say, thats what HD should look like or what i thought it looked like at first. I wish there was a setting between standard and high though

Junkhead 12-20-07, 04:53 PM well since i started this thread a couple hours ago i hadnt even watched the tv today, only yesterday when i first got it and this morning for like 10 minutes before work.
I must say the more i watch the more im impressed, again that motion enhancement stuff is unreal, it makes everything stand out more and makes it really feel like its coming out of the screen.
Right now the kids are watching TMNT and it looks
I think i will get used to it and keep it now, but if I can find a CC that has the 55" version i would still prefer that.

From what they told me when I was in store at CC the other night, none of the stores carry the 55". That is warehouse/shipping only. They only have the 60" instore.
broketoo 12-20-07, 05:10 PM I would keep it. 60inch isnt too big at 8-10 feet. I'm sitting 9ft away from my 65 and I LOVE the size. Give it time as above posts...

again...my thought process is screwy i guess, HD looks unbelievable, SD which i still watch alot of looks really crappy, but i think im just going to deal with it.
JOHNnDENVER 12-20-07, 05:28 PM Also? In about a weeks time? That display will seemingly shrink before your vary eyes....
What is your SD source? I still defend the SD I get off my HD dish box, letting it do the scale. It looks pretty good at 8' from a 106" screen. Sometimes, considering the source it actually borders on impressive. :)
CrossRoad 12-20-07, 06:10 PM Yeah. When I stepped up frrom a 42 to a 55 I thought I had made a mistake as well. I thought it was too big. But as was mentioned before its amazing how in time it comes to seem much smaller. I now have a 60 and I watch frrom 7 ft as I stated earlier. I have 0 regrets. I think it is perfect for movie watching, it really gives that immersive sense. I will say though that it is imperative to have your set calibrated properly. This could be why your SD picture doesn't look good. I also watch my SD TV in 4:3 mode, meaning not stretched to fill the screen, and this works wonders for SD broadcasts. If you are trying to watch like that then I will be the first to say that it does look like crap. If you do drop down in screen size I think you will be looking to go back to 60 or larger in the future. Just my .02

No no no - you're not gonna deal with it - I think you're gonna ask "what the heck was I thinking about this TV being too big?" a week or two later ;)
CrossRoad 12-20-07, 06:15 PM That's precisely what I did!
