Hi, for the last 2 years I have owned a Sharp 65DR650 I purchased from Costco when they had the 100% guarantee policy that has since been changed. I am finally needing to return it for a refund due to a problem with it and am in the market for a new set. I enjoyed the TV, but know I can do better as a lot has changed.

I prefer to stay with the 60-65” size and have a $3000 budget. I would rather get a larger higher quality RPT again rather than a smaller flat screen since I don’t care about mounting it to a wall anyway. Plus I like the bigger size since we sit about 14 feet from the set.

1080p, high contrast ratio, good blacks/picture quality, 120hz..etc. Do any manufacturers use any 3 chip configurations? With the Sharp, during the first week or two I saw rainbow effects…after that it went away and I have not seen it since.

I have a HD cable receiver, HD-DVD player and a Xbox 360.

Can anyone provide any current examples/brands of something that fits my criteria. I have searched this forum for hours and my head is spinning, so I thought I would just post a message and see what I get back.

What brands are best? Does anyone have a TV model/brand that they absolutely love?

What about a good place to order or a place that offers a good warranty? Is it good to get the extended repair warranty? I am thankful that Costco had their 100% guarantee policy when I purchased or I would be SOL. I prefer ordering online and having it shipped to me since I live in an area that is a ways from a major city.

Thanks!

Thanks! Two most popular 60" RPD displays discussed here are the Sony KDS-60A3000 and the Samsung HLT-6187S/6189S line. The Sony is a 3 LCOS chip design with arc-based back light, and Samsung is 1 DLP chip design with LED back light. Both offer excellent PQ.

Great, thanks! Does anyone recommend a good online location to order from?

Well, I found one at abt electronics for 1803.00 after the holiday discount and purchased the 4 year extended warranty for 249.00 for a total of $2052.00. They are an authorized dealer and I should get it in about 2 weeks or less.

Vanns was out of stock (when I last checked and couldn't get through on their 800#) and didn't want to wait. BB wasn't even an option with their higher price and also charge sales tax. It seemed like the other online stores wanted to charge a ton for shipping.

After my experiences with my last TV, I think the warranty will at least make me feel better. I feel nervous buying a TV sight unseen, but after reading so many good reviews I think I will be happy. Originally I was hoping to find a similar size (65") but I think the 60" will be just fine. Plus after my return to Costco, I will be up +$650 with a better TV.

Another note: abt electronics just price matched the Vanns price.

Also, what would the contrast ratio be for the Sony KDS-60A3000?
