I was watching my ISF calibrated, beautiful picture yesterday morning when all of a sudden, the TV shut itself off. I unplugged it, waited 10 minutes, plugged it back in and hit power. The red light came on and the set began its usual warm-up and just before the picture would normally pop on, it shut itself down again. Several re-tries did nothing...same problem.
Now, this is a 7 year old TV which isn't new but certainly not old. The one thing that did really bug me is that I recently had to adjust the brightness to near max to get the image to look like it did when it was originally ISF'd. I'm assuming that this issue is related to the reason the TV is in shut-down mode now.
I can have the service guys come in and take a look at it for $70 (plus an extra $50 if they have to take it back to the shop). I'm thinking that I'd be looking at anywhere from $200-$300 for whatever part needs replacing. So, I'm in for at least $400 or so regardless of the outcome if I decide to get it fixed. My biggest concern is what if this is the tip of a dying iceberg? What are the odds that I'll get another 2-3 years out of this set?
Any thoughts?
