I can't belive it, but my local "Movie Gallery" in my little small town now carries HD DVD and Blu ray rentals. They are $1 more to rent than the SD DVDs and they only have one copy of each title. They don't have many yet, but was impressed to see they now carry them. They have all the HP movies in HD. Good filler to go with my Netflix rentals.

Always good to hear about Mom and Pop shops picking up HD media. Good for you, now you have a local venue to grab some HD titles from!

I think Movie Gallery may be a chain...possibly a small one...not sure. It bumped out the mom and pop store a couple years ago, but for the better. I'm just surprised as WV as a whole doesn't have as many people as most big cities in the US, and I'm in a small town within WV. I'll never have FIOS, but at least I have HD DVDs for rent....LOL.

Reminds me of looking for video stores that rented Laserdiscs back in the 90s.

Next, you might want to point out that the major chains don't charge extra for HDM rentals, and that if they way to compete with Netflix they may want to increase their title availability.

It's a global village now; "small town" is a state of mind. :)

Movie Gallery is the now defunct Hollywood Video which is apparently 1.5B in debt.

Starting in January, I will begin renting HD DVDs from Netflix.

Yes my Movie Gallery here in FL had HD disks also. Of the 30 or so disks they had there were a couple doubles and half of the 30 were rented out. I've rented some Netflix HD disks with success.

My local Hollywood Video carries both HD DVD and BD discs, I actually just rented the Blade Runner final cut 5 disc set this afternoon. I understand there are many Hollywood Video stores throughout the country now renting HD and BD movies. You may want to check if you have not lately.

I live in a fairly small town with a blockbuster video and they stopped renting blu-ray discs because they said there was not enough rentals, never did have any hd-dvs. I was going to join their online club until this happened. Have been with netflix for years.
