What are your thoughts on the HD DVD title of Harsh Times. Anyone own this title? Is it worth a blind buy? I like Christian Bale and wondered if this HD DVD would make a good purchase. I don't like to buy blind too much, but if anyone owns this title, I would love to hear your feedback.:)

the movie didn't have much action in it, so your subs won't get a workout. PQ i thought was really soft, some outside scenes are okay but overall PQ is not that good. movie wise this is a decent movie, the last 20 minutes is quite intense.

I thought the movie itself was a major disappointment. :(

I Netflixed it months ago. I was a little disappointed with the movie as well but it looked pretty good from what I remember.

I thought this movie was a bomb. Bale as usual was engrossing, but there was literally no other redeeming quality to it.

And the ending was disturbing, and not in an entertaining or dramatic way. It was just bad.

From what I hear, the HD DVD PQ is pretty poor, as well.

I liked it. The PQ wasn't that bad. Bale was really good in this one, it is just a really hard movie to sit through twice.

i really liked it. PQ could be better but in my opinion the movie was pretty good. i think if you like training day you should give this a look, since it's by the same director and it's nearly a carbon copy of it.

the PQ is really grainy, and occasionally a bit soft, but the film itself is good, and Bale is phenomenal slipping in and out of various personas...

The movie is great! Showed a friend and she can't stop telling people to check it out.

The HD DVD PQ isn't all that bad. Not the best, but not bad.

Average picture quality and decent sound (not a showy mix). The movie itself: think of Training Day without Denzel and Ethan Hawk. Very similar plot devices with past decisions/encounters coming back to impact characters, I didn't think Bale was very believable as a LA gangbanger, when he said "duuuuuude" me and two friends laughed out loud.

I thought Harsh Times was a really good movie......I haven't seen the HD DVD, so I can't comment on the picture quality.

Thats for all of your input here!

The director of Harsh Times is actually David Ayer, who wrote this film as well as Training Day. The director of Training Day is Antoine Fuqua (Shooter, Replacement Killers).:)

Still undecided here, since this title is not readily available in Canada (it falls under the import category like The World's Fastest Indian), I might just have to either wait it out or blind buy it from one of the only local retailers that gets everything in stock (www.thecnl.com).

Its pretty much a middle of the road film for me. I've seen better and I've seen worse. It is alot like Training Day, but isn't as good if you ask me. PQ and AQ are pretty middle of the road as well.

A note about PQ: this film was primarily shot on Super 16mm film.

I own over 2000 movies and rent too, so I'm pretty liberal when it comes to what I find acceptable. This was not a title that I'd recommend. From what I recall, it was a rather dark movie and so was the content. Bale is good, but the movie is barely worth a rental. I would not recommend a buy since I'd find it hard to find a reason to watch it twice.....
