This morning it made me coffee, fried eggs, and wheat toast.

Seriously though, I'm really enjoying hi-def movies, especially never having owned bluray or hd-dvd before. The dvd upscaling is really sweet too. It has some issues with Fox blurays, but I'm sure that will be corrected sometime soon.

Overall, I love having bluray and hd-dvd in one player, with one remote, and only one source on my hdtv.

I am actually having a blast with this player. The pq and sound are awesome and so far the only bluray movie that won't play is Casino Royale.

It was definitely wourth the wait and the money.

Any questions, pm me if you like

Excellent PQ...Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, SDVD. Can't wait to hook it up to my new pre/pro!
Skeptical at first. (Been on this forum too long...) lol
It has been playing everything that I have thrown into it!

So far I am loving everything about this unit. The PQ is amazing and I have no problems with sound. Just got a couple SD DVD from blockbuster. Probably watch atleast 1 tonight. I expect upconversion to be very high. All I can say is stay on your local BB.

X43X,

You got me curious, we seem to have a simular system:
ROTEL RB-10?? AMP
COMCAST HD TUNER
B&W SPEAKERS

What kind of processor? I'm using a Rotel RSP-1068 & an OPPO 981HD DVD player.
How does the dual player sound with your system?

I've watched the first 30 minutes of Transformers too, and it was even more impressive, with just DD+.
For all the bitching I see on almost a daily basis about the inferiority of lossy audio (particularly, DD+ at 1.5Mbps), this is beautiful to see. :D

thanks x43x,

i want sound over picture. i love my picture from my oppo 981hd & the sound from region 3 dvds. interested in the sammy but can't decode the sound without getting a new reciever. i have to do a a/b test before going back to a reciever from separates. thinking about a sammy / yamaha system.

My BD-UP5000 is wonderful. I watched Blade Runner (the final cut) on it on Christmas Day and it was perfect. Yesterday I watched the remastered version of The Fifth Element on it and that was great too. Then I tried putting in Voyage to the Planets - a standard DVD from BBC America that I knew had problems with up-conversion in my old DVD player - and the BD-UP5000 plays it beautifully.

I am 100% satisfied. So far this is the best $800 I've ever spent.

Strange to say, but the one thing I really like is the glow of the on button backlight. I had a Samsung standard DVD player before and the blue glow when it was switched on was so blinding and distracting that I had to cover it with tape. The BD-UP5000 has a very subtle glow - very nice indeed. It's a small detail but details like this are important.

I also agree with others - this unit is very nice looking indeed - glossy black and very futuristic-looking. Photos really don't do it justice.

But the main reason I'm happy is that the BD-UP5000 wins the format war.
