Hello,

OK, so I got suckered into buying these speakers about 7 years ago before I knew any better (hey they are Bose after all :) ). So by the end of this coming January, I will have about $1300 to spend on speakers. If wait another 10 months or so, I could have about $2000 (total) to spend on speakers. So would you spend the $1300 now or wait another year to spend $2000?

here is my situation:

25x19 Family Room with cathedral ceilings
Yamaha HTR-5890
Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player

Due to room layout, the rears are about 7.5 feet off the ground (no way around this).

Need to have at least 5.1 setup.

I like how the Aperions looks and their return & Trade-up policy.

What would you do and what speakers would you go with?

Thanks,

That's a pretty big room, so you'll probably want a fairly beefy system to fill it. The main question to ask yourself to determine your answer is, how important is the audio to you? Many people would be quite happy with some of the 5.1 systems that are available for under $1300 today even in your big room, but many would not. You also need to think about whether you want floorstanders or standmounts, what finishes you like (plain black? A nice veneer?), do you have WAF to deal with (does the significant other want something "invisible"?), how much space you have for mains, center, sub, and so on. Also do you listen to more music or is it mainly for HT? When watching War of the Worlds do you want the house to rumble or do you just want to have some kind of better surround than the Blose? It's all about what's going to make you (and possibly spouse) happy.

A suggestion you'll often see here is, if the audio is really important to you (and it probably is since you're here), you can always start off with just your mains, or mains and a sub, get the ones you like best in your price range, and add on later. That way you can enjoy your system right away then end up in a year with something you'll be happy with for a long time. I'm assuming you need a sub too but does your budget have to include a receiver or separates as well? And have you gone out to stores to audition anything yet? If so, that's a good start, so you should come back and post more info and tell us what you heard that you did and did not like so people can make suggestions to lead you towards more products you would probably like.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying.

Audio is pretty important (not so important that I need a 2nd mortgage though), but I do want to do things right this time.

In my opening post, for simplicity to the question, I didn't mention that I have a Klipsch RC-1 (I believe) that I am using as the Center channel. I was able to pick it up for like $90 so I figured what the heck.

I like your suggestion of going with mains and sub now, which after your suggestion I might do that. After recently reading some of the specs on the Bose AM 15s, adding a sub now will be better.

Do you think it would be a good start to go with Aperion 533-T (towers) and their 10" sub. i can get these for $1249. My wife probably wouldn't approve of earth quake inducing bass, so maybe the 10" sub is a good fit.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm ok with the reciever that I have for right now (Yamaha HTR-5890).

If you are looking for small form with big sound, try; www.orbaudio.com. Small like Bose, but head and shoulders above in sound. And, you won't need a second mortgage.
