I just got burned by a seller on Amazon on a 4GB that I was buying for my PSP. They had a really high number of positives so I thought that I would be getting a legit retail package, which was stated in the seller's info for the item. The card didn't even work at all. It did look legit but felt even more fragile than my old 32 meg card that came with my PSP.
Wish I would have seen this first - http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/FAKE-Sony-Memory-Stick-Pro-Duo-MagicGate-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001535763
So I guess just go to a brick and mortar store if you are getting this for your PSP. Don't be like me, hehe ;)

If it looks the same and has the same storage... what's the difference?

Re-read his post, he said it didn't work at all.

I was referring to the others eBay buyers.

The thing about most of these fakes is that they may say it has the same storage as the legit card but most don't. Say you have a 4GB fake...and you try to copy a 1 GB file, it will not copy completely and leave the file corrupted. That is with the assumption that the card can actually be read.
Even the adapter that came with my fake barely fit into the reader on my PC and I had to get it out with pliers.
It's pretty surprising that Sony hasn't shut these operations down.

Its not just a problem with sony, but with all memory cards like San Disk Compact Flash cards. I think I just bought a counterfit/fake San Disk CF Ultra 2 4Gb card off ebay. I emailed the seller and warned if it was fake that they should refund my money now, because if they don't and I get a fake card (there are a lot of ways to tell) then I can not only get a refund, I think I will pursue as much damage to the seller as possible. From their feedback it looks like this isnt the first counterfit memory card (figures I read the deedback after clicking buy it now). I hate sleezy sellers, praying on poor old deal hunters. Either way I'll be getting either a very cheap real San Disk CF card, or my money back with a side of a justice. Because at least if you buy something like this that ends up being a fraud, its under the "signifigantly not as described" clause. Since it isn't infact a "San Disk" card. So, if you buy from other places like amazon, I would look into their buyer protection, to help protect buyers from fraud, might be able to get your money back, unless its been too long a time.

I did the same thing and ordered without really thinking about the card being a fake. I too was looking for a deal. I guess there really isn't too much honesty out there anymore :( I agree that you should get your money back and make sure that seller pays the price for selling this ^$&*.

Good luck trying to get your cash back from someone like that on ebay, with paypal you may have a chance but when I bought my 2 GB a couple of years ago it failed every fake test there was but it is still 2 GB so I dont mind. I went to look the seller up less than a week later and they were completely removed from ebay so good luck with that. Moral I guess is that some fakes work and some do not mine just happens to work and I was glad.
