I purchased a 50" Grand WEGA 3LCD Rear Projection Television about two years ago. The TV has gradually developed these smears and smudges on the screen. Despite cleaning with both soapy water and monster cleaner from Best Buy they do not remove. Almost seems like they are coming from the inside and getting worse. The 1 year warranty is long gone but I did get the extended 4 year warranty from Best Buy. Time to call in the problem?
Any thoughts? Experiences?
New to the forum and any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You either have cobwebs inside the light box between the lens and screen or the engine is dirty.
Time to call for service.

I only see the smears & smudges when the TV is off and it really became apparent with the glare from the Christmas tree lights.
I called and have tech coming Monday. The Best Buy customer service and warranty seem great in retrospect. Nice people on phone.

Please post results when you find out what this is. I recently perchased a Sony kds-60a3000 from an authorized on-line dealer and saw smudges and smears on the screen right out of the box. They too will not come off. Called Sony and they said to schedule a service call. Service guy said it looks like the ant-glare surface of the screen is damaged. Sony won't cover it because its not part of the warranty. I called the on-line dealer and they asked me "what my expectations were in regard to a resolution?" I said I would like to see the screen replaced. She said that she would call me back after researching what could be done and I haven't heard from them in over a week.
