Currently we have a PS2 and a Wii. After seeing a Blu-Ray demo in the store the other day I have to have one. I think the 60Gb is going to be a good choice for me but want to know if the experts think I am missing anything. Two things are important to me, one is Blu-Ray and the other is BC, my understanding from a lot of reading here is that Blu-Ray will be the same on each model so not an issue, my understanding is also that the 60gb is best for BC so it seems like this is an easy choice for me. Am I missing anything?

Get the 40, and upgrade the internal HD for less than a hundo, and have 3 times the storage..

no get the 80gb on ebay I have one for sale now....
60gig for backwards compatibility; I've had one for over a year now and another for about 10 months and no problems out of either. 80 gig is ok but not as backwards compatible as the 60.

60 Gb all the way! Best BC (with the 20 Gb). Playing upscaled PS2 is really nice.

Looking through some posts here it appears I will still need to keep my PS2 as the PS3 isn't compatable with GHII and also High School Musical (uses the Logitech Mic), is this correct or should these work with the PS3?

Yup, keep the ps2 for GHI & II; don't know about HS Musical.

Do not get the 40 if you want BC.
60 = best for BC, 80 is a close second. 40 = none.
If you can get a 60 I think that would be the best choice for you personally. Remember you can upgrade the hard drives in any of them.
Depending on what PS2 games you want to play on the PS3, the 60GB or 80GB may be okay. Check Sony's compatibility list (http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus) to see if your games will work.

For BC, the 60 or the 20 would be the way to go. If you're going to get a new one, get it soon though. They're both discontinued. You can still find 60s around in some stores. Haven't seen a 20 in quite a while though. The big difference between the 60 and 80 is that the 80 uses a software emulator for BC, while the 60 has the Emotion Engine chip for hardware compatibility. If you're just worried about specific games (other than GH or High School Musical) check the compatibility list linked above. I was in the same boat as you not too long ago. I went with the 60. I figure that the gain in BC was well worth the loss of 20GB of easily upgradable HDD space. And I figure that the market will be flooded with copies of Motorstorm, so it'll eventually be cheap should I decide to try it out.

If BC is important to you then get the 60GB model. It's the only one which uses hardware for PS1 and PS2 compatibility, assuring that as many games as possible will work correctly.
The 80GB model uses software emulation for BC; the more popular games should work fine but older or more obscure titles may not.
The 40GB model has no PS2 BC support at all. It also has two fewer USB ports and (obviously) a smaller hard drive.
I have the 60GB model myself and it's been a workhorse for me: PS3, PS2 BC, BluRay playback, DVD upconverting, and media hub.
