View Full Version : What movie titles are Profile 1.1 ?
TheMoose 12-23-07, 11:20 AM What movie titles are Profile 1.1?
I know Resident Evil Extinction is 1.1 & I have it on pre order but are there any others that are & is there any scheduled to be released soon & when will all movies be 1.1?
Also is 1.1 a really big deal or something you'll mess with a few times & not use again?
Robert George 12-23-07, 11:31 AM "War" from Lionsgate with have some small 1.1 features.
Profile 1.1 is a big deal in the proper context. It's a big deal in that the vast majority of Blu-ray players in use today are NOT 1.1 compliant and 1.1 is now the spec for the format. It's a big deal for those studios that feel the sort of interactivity that requires Profile 1.1 is important to the format and their content. It may not be a big deal to everyone, however.
Maxx_75 12-23-07, 11:51 AM How long after DVD was released did DTS get added to the spec ? I loved the fact that it got added. I think that BD was rushed to make pace with HD DVD so it got shipped missing a few parts. The PS3 is the main player out right now even more so for J6P. Its update to 1.1 has been seemless. Most people will never know it was missing in the first place. The other 1.0 players are not going to be a big deal as they are owned but people like us that will just buy new ones. This is the nature of the beast for us early adopters.
Sunshine is also a 1.1 title.
Schroeder0905 12-23-07, 12:18 PM Isn't 3:10 to Yuma 1.1?

DTS was included in the DVD spec as an optional format when the spec was finalized, more than 11 years ago. As it is even today.
I think you are confusing the issue of early DVD players not supporting DTS with what was actually required in the format spec. DTS was never a required codec so players were never required to have decoders.
Profile 1.1 is now required part of the Blu-ray spec for hardware. Players designed/sold prior to November 1st of '07 do not have to meet Profile 1.1 because the spec was actually changed. The DVD spec was not changed, as you think it was.

No.
DigitalFirefly 12-23-07, 12:40 PM I think Sunshine (http://www.amazon.com/Sunshine-Blu-ray-Cliff-Curtis/dp/B000Y7U98W******pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1198431589&sr=8-1).

See on highdefdigest.com (http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Sony/Disc_Announcements/Adventures_of_Baron_Munchausen_Heads_to_Blu-ray/1280):
The first discs to incorporate Profile 1.1 features are scheduled to hit store shelves in January 2008. To date, announced titles include 'Resident Evil: Extinction' from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, 'Sunshine' from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, and both 'War' and '3:10 to Yuma' from Lionsgate Entertainment.
GizmoDVD 12-23-07, 01:51 PM I love how they will have "Minimum Requirements" on a movie from now on.
Can't play this unless you have a Profile 1.1 player. Err, will the general public know what they even own?
Robert George 12-23-07, 02:13 PM Yes it is.
I stand corrected. I was looking for a PiP commentary and that isn't what is on the disc. There is a PiP feature, but it isn't listed as PiP or commentary, or anything that would indicate what it is. I missed this the first time I looked through the menus.

Actually, the way it works is the features that require Profile 1.1 simply don't show up in the menu unless you have a 1.1 player.

You wouldn't call over 75% the majority?

That's correct.
In this pic there is the option for the PIP experience because the player is 1.1

But this one isn't 1.1 so there just isn't an option listed.

A mate tried it on his ps3 today without the update and he said it worked fine.Im trying mine on the standalone player Pioneer bdp-lx70A
Robert George 12-24-07, 10:40 AM Add Shoot Em Up
There is nothing to indicate this is PiP as implemented in Profile 1.1. This may well be a double encode, as has been done in the past. In fact, as short as the movie is, the fact that it is indicated as a BD50 makes me think it is a double encode. We'll find out by the end of the week, I'm sure.
Robert George 12-24-07, 05:13 PM Update: 3:10 To Yuma
Since both of my Blu-ray players are Profile 1.1, I talked to a friend who also has an early copy of 3:10 To Yuma and a PS3 that has not yet been updated. He tells me all the PiP features in the "Inside Yuma" feature are accessible on a non-1.1 player. This tells me this is not using PiP with a secondary video decoder. This disc is using some combination of dual encode, branching, or multi-angle to achieve these special features.
