Hi Everyone-
I'm not sure whether this question belongs here or in the equipment forum, but I figured I'd try here:
I got a bunch of free movies from the Amazon deal with my A35. Serenity sounds like garbage. The dialog is totally clipped. Other movies sound fine. I'm playing through a Denon 3806 using DD+ via HDMI. Anyone else have a problem with this title?

It's so bad I'm wondering whether I'm missing a setting of some sort.

Do you have dialog enhancement or any other audio enhancements turned on in the A35 audio menu?

Even though it sounds very very far fetched to me...is there such a thing as a bad disc?

That was mentioned over in the hardware A35 thread. I don't know actually. I'll look to turn these off if they are on...everything is default out of the box except for 1080p24 option turned on. Why would only one title be affected? Other DD+ tracks sound fine to me (Seabiscuit for example).

Interestingly widescreen review (whom I trust wholeheartedly) had trouble with this title as well - clipped dialog was one of my complaints in the original post - seems they observed this, as well as other problems. Since widscreen review is copyrighted material I won't post the entire review...but hopefully if I reference them correctly they won't mind me posting one short quote referring specifically to the DD+ track:
"A high-pitched ringing can be heard throughout the presentation, which can become a distraction. Some distortion can be heard in the louder dialogue at times, which also can become distracting." - Widescreen Review, 109 June 2006

I'm still haven't gotten a chance to turn off all of the enhancements in the audio menu. If they are on by default, they're on in my system...I can only imagine that these may be acting to exacerbate the problem and make it more noticeable in my set-up than in others.

I noticed the high pitch noise throughout most of the movie as well on my A1 and XA1; I haven't watched it on my XA2 yet. It's not your setup, it's the disc itself. Supposedly it was on the SD DVD as well which tells me that it must be on the master track.

Yes at least one enhancement is ON by default. These audio enhancement are for built-in stereo speakers in a HDTV for that virtual surround effect.

Anyone with a sound system with a receiver "should" disable all audio enhancements in the HD DVD player.
