Is there a trade in program for the new Full metal Jacket? Is the disc fixed or just a new cover?

I tried this and it gained very little traction even on these forums. I wish that they would as clearly there was some stretching of the truth concering the specs on the first release.

it's "fixed", and they're still actually selling the other version... think of it as replacing a standard edition with SE, as far as Warner's is concerned this is an entirely new release...

Jon, this is a entirely new 1080p master and transfer, better than the previous one video wise with PCM on BD/TrueHD on HD and some extras if that floats your boat ;)

What's the deal with this title? I think this one is an option for a freebie with the mail in offer (don't remember offhand). Are there multiple releases or is there just one and it stinks PQ wise? This title is of interest to me.

From what I understand, Traffic is basically the DVD encode upconverted. So, you're better off saving money and just getting the DVD at the moment, but others seem to disagree with that assessment: http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/12/traffic.html

At times High Def Digest are glouriously wrong.

What other titles are thought to be upconverts? You can private message me this as I don't want to steer this conversation off track too much...

Traffic and Spartacus are the ones thought to be upconverts. Traffic definitely is, but I don't know if there was ever a consensus on Spartacus.

Full Metal Jacket was one of Warner's 1080i masters along with Enter the Dragon, The Fugitive, The Perfect Storm, Lethal Weapon 2 (and maybe 1), and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

They should all follow Sony's lead and offer free exchanges for these inferior transfers.

Noted on Traffic and Spartacus. I'd read something months ago about the Spartacus being worse than the Criterion DVD.

On those others (Enter The Dragon, Fugitive...etc)....ALL of those titles are of interest to me. These look bad also? I own quite a few 1080i D-Theater tapes and those are completely acceptable to me. I was actually planning to pick up Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 this week with Best Buy's sale.

I don't think Spartacus is an upconvert as it does show notable improvements over the dvd. That being said every screen capture I've seen looks like garbage.

If you are outputting a 1080i signal to a 1080i display I don't know if it will make any difference. But here is what Enter the Dragon looks like at 1080p. Look at the edge of any letter or object.

Note that this isn't only because the master was 1080i, but because it had been filtered as well.

that is not what Dragon looks like at 1080p, not even close, that looks like some horrid PC based deinterlacing issues or something

Well, I haven't seen that disc yet, but this is exactly what Willy Wonka and Perfect Storm look like at 1080p so it seems plausible to me.
