View Full Version : Is there a Full Metal Jacket trade-in program?? Jon Spackman 12-23-07, 03:29 PM Is there a trade in program for the new Full metal Jacket? Is the disc fixed or just a new cover? Thanks DrCrawn 12-23-07, 03:33 PM I tried this and it gained very little traction even on these forums. I wish that they would as clearly there was some stretching of the truth concering the specs on the first release. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=931344&highlight=FMJ sharkshark 12-24-07, 12:09 PM it's "fixed", and they're still actually selling the other version... think of it as replacing a standard edition with SE, as far as Warner's is concerned this is an entirely new release... rexdigital 12-24-07, 12:20 PM yeah, I saw an old copy right next to the SE at best buy the other day. both the same price. aod 12-24-07, 10:21 PM yeah, I saw an old copy right next to the SE at best buy the other day. both the same price. I hope you bought the new one. :) Gary Murrell 12-25-07, 12:42 AM Jon, this is a entirely new 1080p master and transfer, better than the previous one video wise with PCM on BD/TrueHD on HD and some extras if that floats your boat ;) -Gary rexdigital 12-25-07, 01:08 AM I hope you bought the new one. :) yep, the day it came out :) I feel sorry for whoever ends up buying that early one though. Kram Sacul 12-25-07, 01:18 AM Don't feel too sorry. Imagine the people that bought Traffic. :D Brian81 12-25-07, 12:19 PM Don't feel too sorry. Imagine the people that bought Traffic. :D What's the deal with this title? I think this one is an option for a freebie with the mail in offer (don't remember offhand). Are there multiple releases or is there just one and it stinks PQ wise? This title is of interest to me. Don Borvio 12-25-07, 01:48 PM What's the deal with this title? From what I understand, Traffic is basically the DVD encode upconverted. So, you're better off saving money and just getting the DVD at the moment, but others seem to disagree with that assessment: http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/12/traffic.html Damnationdoormat 12-25-07, 02:51 PM From what I understand, Traffic is basically the DVD encode upconverted. Brian81 12-25-07, 03:06 PM What other titles are thought to be upconverts? You can private message me this as I don't want to steer this conversation off track too much... Brian81 12-25-07, 05:04 PM Traffic and Spartacus are the ones thought to be upconverts. Traffic definitely is, but I don't know if there was ever a consensus on Spartacus. Full Metal Jacket was one of Warner's 1080i masters along with Enter the Dragon, The Fugitive, The Perfect Storm, Lethal Weapon 2 (and maybe 1), and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. They should all follow Sony's lead and offer free exchanges for these inferior transfers. Noted on Traffic and Spartacus. I'd read something months ago about the Spartacus being worse than the Criterion DVD. On those others (Enter The Dragon, Fugitive...etc)....ALL of those titles are of interest to me. These look bad also? I own quite a few 1080i D-Theater tapes and those are completely acceptable to me. I was actually planning to pick up Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 this week with Best Buy's sale. Kram Sacul 12-25-07, 06:22 PM I don't think Spartacus is an upconvert as it does show notable improvements over the dvd. That being said every screen capture I've seen looks like garbage. Gary Murrell 12-25-07, 06:48 PM If you are outputting a 1080i signal to a 1080i display I don't know if it will make any difference. But here is what Enter the Dragon looks like at 1080p. Look at the edge of any letter or object. http://www.image-load.eu/out.php/t14638_dragon1.PNG (http://www.image-load.eu/out.php/i14638_dragon1.PNG) http://www.image-load.eu/out.php/t14639_dragon2.PNG (http://www.image-load.eu/out.php/i14639_dragon2.PNG) Note that this isn't only because the master was 1080i, but because it had been filtered as well. that is not what Dragon looks like at 1080p, not even close, that looks like some horrid PC based deinterlacing issues or something -Gary Kram Sacul 12-25-07, 08:40 PM Do you have a 1080i or 720p set? Category 5 12-26-07, 01:56 AM that is not what Dragon looks like at 1080p, not even close, that looks like some horrid PC based deinterlacing issues or something -Gary Well, I haven't seen that disc yet, but this is exactly what Willy Wonka and Perfect Storm look like at 1080p so it seems plausible to me. |
