Hey all-

I am just a broke college student wanting to buy an HD-TV using the Christmas money I received from my parents and grandparents. I don't plan on buying ANOTHER t.v. until I graduate from graduate-school in the next 2 years, but I want a BIG t.v.!
I think I know what I am going to buy in about a week, but I wanted to opinions of my fellow OS'ers....I trust you guys.
Here is the t.v. (and I remember, it isn't the very BEST, but I am really strapped for cash and just want something big to play my Playstation 3 on that looks really good)

*50" Phillips DLP HD-TV Rear-Projection Television

*1280 x 720p Resolution

*16:9 aspect ratio widescreen

I am sooo close to buying it in the next few days, because I really like it, but I was just wondering what you guys think. My brother has been telling me to get a t.v. with 1080 quality instead of this 720p, but I was wondering if it makes that much of a difference (especially since I don't want to spend much money)

**It is being sold at Wal-Mart (yea, I know, Wal-Mart and is on sale for $799) - I just don't think I can pass it up!!!

All comments would be VERY appreciated! Thanks all!!!!

If it were me, I'd say get something with 1080 capability ...

Would it be possible to wait/save a little bit longer to upgrade to 1080?

Yeah??

...you think its smart to wait and get something 1080? I just wasn't sure there was much of a jump or difference between 720 and 1080 for the most part..???

The bigger the screen, the more apparent the difference will be. It's kinda more of a future-protection, really, since not a ton of stuff is even broadcast/recorded in 1080.

I dunno ... if you must-have something now, you're probably going to be fine.

Yea, I understand kinda.

....I really just want my PS3 to look really crispy and nice! Do you think this t.v. will provide making my PS3 experience really good???

...and a friend of mine told me NOT to buy any t.v. bigger than 42" at 720p.....why would he say that???
