View Full Version : Borne Ultimatum and Bean's Holiday on XBox 360
dguisinger 12-24-07, 02:57 AM I have gone thru two copies of both Bean's Holiday and Borne Ultimatum discs on my Xbox 360. They on occassion will play but freeze at the exact same point every time....but 90% of the time it tells me it cannot read the HD DVD.
All my other discs (I have about 30 movies) play just fine. These both are new releases from Universal Studios in Combo format.
I placed a phone call to Microsoft, the rep seemed very unknowledgeable about the HD DVD drives towards the end she stated that the console doesnt work with all movies, that there are content limitations. And I said, are you giving me money back on my drive? She was like no. I said well, my box says nothing about any limitations, are you telling me I should be filing a lawsuit. She shut up pretty quick, took down the movies, gave me a reference number, and I was supposed to be transfered to a supervisor but I beleive I lost cell reception (my iPhone said Call Failed instead of Call Ended). I was hoping to push for official policies on what they do or do not claim they support.
I've seen some threads here and there about either discs, is anyone having any success in dealing with these issues? How many times can I keep taking them back to best buy to get them replaced? Is there a good solution?
zero002021 12-24-07, 03:13 AM Could be bad discs, could be a bad player. I have an Xbox 360 add-on along with The Bourne Ultimatum and Mr Bean's Holiday, but I haven't watched either yet so I can't tell you if they work on my system. I'm probably going to watch Bourne tomorrow, so I'll let you know.
For the record, others have had no problem getting Bourne to work in their Xbox 360 add-on. Do you have any friends with the add-on or a Toshiba player? Maybe you could test the movies on a friends player? That way you can figure out whether the problem is the movies or your player. Another thing, have you tried boiling the discs? I know it sounds silly, but others here have claimed that it fixed their bad discs, so it's worth a shot.
trent82 12-24-07, 10:05 AM my bourne took a while to load at the start...it asked about getting a cookie, i accepted, and then it just sat there for a few minutes. but once i got through that, it worked fine throughout the movie.

Same deal here, but I chalked it up to a slow network on their end. After the cookie downloaded to the HDD, it now loads just as quick as all my other titles each time I play it.
dguisinger 12-25-07, 04:47 AM Yeah, thats not the problem I'm having; I can't even get it to start. It sits at the dashboard and gives me a failure. But only on these two discs. Everything else works great. I just ordered an A3, but I don't feel that I should have had to do that...Microsoft just keeps telling me not all discs are compatible with their drive do to manufacturing processes.
FHSASBVP 12-25-07, 04:50 AM Ultimatum works fine for me as well. I'll check beans holiday in the morning after my wife opens it for christmas...hee hee...she's getting over 20 hd movies. ;)
I'll know this friday when my 360 AO arrives from Amazon. I got in in the deal where they give you the entire trilogy in HD for free. However, I'm going to use the 360 AO at work on my laptop and at home on my main computer.
I guess Cyberlink dvd software will work ok with the drive and playback?
Volitar Prime 12-25-07, 07:50 AM Bourne Ultimatum works fine on my 360 HD-DVD drive. Are you sure you have the latest HD-DVD firmware? An update just came out last week (it auto downloaded for me when I first put in Bladerunner).
Ninja ZX9 12-25-07, 10:14 AM bourne worked fine in mine..
I just finished watching Mr Bean Holiday and didnt have any issues..but then im using the A3
dguisinger 12-26-07, 01:12 AM Hmm, wonder if its the batch of discs my bestbuy received? I'm pretty sure i've got the latest firmware, it downloaded stuff a week or two ago when I played a movie....
I ordered an A3 yesterday because amazon's prices were good and it was basically free with all the movies...add more to my existing collection of 30 :) .... lets me hook my xbox up to a monitor in my bedroom and have two players I guess, lol.
but i am getting tired of fighting with these two discs :(
Bean was gave an error 4 times on my A2 with 2.7 before i flipped sides. Have not tried Bourne yet.
dguisinger 12-27-07, 06:40 PM dcrum, tried Borne yet?
Jarrod_38 12-27-07, 10:59 PM I'm having the same issues with my copy of The Bourne Ultimatum. I get the unplayable disk error. I'm using the Xbox 360 Add-On.
random tek hed 12-27-07, 11:04 PM Apparently I lot of people are having problems with Bourne Ultimatum on the 360 add on. You might want to try updating the software for your player (I'm still not sure if it's the same thing as the general 360 automatic firmware updates or something different.) MS has a file you can download and burn to a CD/DVD.
Anyone know if those updates are indeed different from the regular auto updates?
ncinsguy 12-27-07, 11:58 PM borne worked fine for me on my add-on, wasn't even connected to the internet.

i had to power down my xbox and the drive twice (actually removing the power cables) before it would read the disc. once it did that, it played fine.
next problem is that with 12 minutes remaining in the film, the picture starts freezing/stuttering. reboots didn't cure and i had to finish it on the SD side. i have seen some other reports with problems at this point, but nothing very definitive.

Same here. It made me mad.
Bourne worked in my 360 HD drive, I just had to hit cancel when it was trying to load the web content, it seemed to get stuck on that, but canceling brought me to the main menu and I was able to watch no problem.
Saleen4971 12-28-07, 08:35 AM my first copy of ultimatum didnt work at all, on either side. 2nd copy so far works. took a few minutes to load the first time, but now it loads up fine, looks/sounds great.
hopefully it stays that way for the entire movie!
im using a 360AO with my elite BTW
LexInVA 12-28-07, 12:16 PM I'm beginning to think there might be models of the add-on that have serious issues with combos. Since I've only had a single disc (Superman Returns) work 100% out of over a dozen titles I've tested with my add-on (which is and always has been fully updated).
agnathra 12-28-07, 02:27 PM i had the issue with bourne ultimatum i mentioned above (360 addon). i also had issues with happy feet (disc eventually started working) and children of men (early disk never worked) when they came out. but i just went through the rest of the xmas combo haul (hot fuzz, kingdom, new children of men) and everything else seems ok. i have about 5 other combos that all work. i have to say though that i hold my breath every time i put a new combo in.
i was getting the freeze on bourne ult. near the end too but then i deleted the HD-DVD memory from the memory blade and it works without freezing now. glad i fixed it.
lsturbointeg 12-29-07, 01:18 AM Bourne Ultimatum works fine on my XBox360 Add-on but Mr Beans Holiday played fine just once, after that it won't even read the disc...gonna return it back to BB...
borne worked fine for me on my add-on, wasn't even connected to the internet.
Firmware updates could be what's causing some of the problems. Bourne player perfectly fine on my 360. I'm not connected to the net and haven't done an update for a long time.

clearing the memory didn't help on my 360 addon. i'll try getting a replacement disk.
Rhegaana 12-29-07, 10:29 AM Do you need to update the add on to the current version to get BU to play?? I rather not since everything plays fine since the last update!!
tahustvedt 12-29-07, 03:39 PM Bourne Ultimatum worked fine for me with my add on drive and HTPC. I disable the internet connection when I watch movies to avoid the stupid internet crap.
