View Full Version : What's on the dual format horizon for us non-HDMI format neutral wannabe's?
circumstances 12-24-07, 03:07 PM Please post here with any new information regarding dual format players that might be a solution for those of us with older processors or receivers, that need to get their audio via analog.
With CES coming up shortly, there will hopefully be quite a bit of information for those of us still sitting on the sidelines.
Any information regarding decoding of TrueHD and DTS-HD MA in the player, along with speaker distance, bass management, etc. would be especially appreciated.
I'm looking forward to good news in this area in the next few months. Post anything you hear in here. Thanks!
circumstances 12-25-07, 04:02 PM so nobody has any good gossip on dual format players in the not too distant future.
hopefully that will all change at CES.
here's my personal wishlist:
HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc playback (of course)
Exellent HD picture quality
1080p via HDMI to my display
State of the art SD DVD upscaling
TrueHD decoded in the player
DTS-HD MA decoded in the player
5.1 analog outs
complete speaker management in the player
Feel free to add your own needs, or whatever is lacking from current players that is keeping you from purchasing.
fst96se 12-25-07, 04:28 PM 7.1 analogue outs.... 5.1 is so 80's! ;)
circumstances 12-25-07, 05:20 PM i have an anthem avm 20. just 5.1
fst96se 12-25-07, 05:31 PM And I an Emotiva DMC-1.... 7.1! Even though most Processors won't do post processing from the analogue inputs, 7.1 outs are a must for upcoming 7.1 titles... ya know?
alexortega 12-26-07, 10:35 AM add to that list that it needs to be Bluray Profile 2.0 compatible, BD Region Free (ie A to C region playback), DVD Region Free ( 1 to 6 playback, PAL/NTSC), DVD Audio and SACD Playback over HDMI, 7.1 anologue decoding of all advanced codecs and plays all rewritable discs ie BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RE etc
quad user 12-26-07, 11:26 AM 7.1 analogue outs.... 5.1 is so 80's! ;)
Try 90's. There was no consumer 5.1 in the 80's.
bobpaule 12-26-07, 12:08 PM No SACD, no duallie for me :)
fst96se 12-26-07, 12:41 PM Try 90's. There was no consumer 5.1 in the 80's.
Being melodramatic, you know?:p
greatgabbo 12-26-07, 07:28 PM i have an anthem avm 20. just 5.1
The dream player that you described should have 7.1 analog outs. You'd just configure it for 5.1 output to your Anthem and the surround back channel information on 7.1 soundtracks would be mixed into you 2 surround channels.
circumstances 12-26-07, 07:58 PM yep, that's what i meant. :D
i just mentioned 5.1 because that's all the capability i currently have.
thanks.

.... and how about a player that can actually play all of the available HDDVD/BR discs. I am getting increasingly frustrated by movies that will either not play at all or freeze up part of the way through. I realize these formats have growing pains but, sheesh, we are up to third generation players and still have playback problems (particularly with BR). Not good Mav!
circumstances 12-27-07, 05:52 PM i can't believe the paucity of news on what might be the "next great thing."
hopefully CES will change all that.
c'mon people, if you know something, spill it! :D
