Hey,

I try to connect my new Pioneer home theatre system to my new Panasonic plasma display via HDMI connection, but when I do that, there is no picture on the plasma display.

Home theatre system: Pioneer RCS-515H with HDMI port
Plasma display: Panasonic TH-42PV700 with three HDMI ports
HDMI lead: Vivanco with golden plated connectors

When I connect them, the HDMI indicator on the Pioneer lightens up and the HDMI options in the initial setup menu of the Pioneer become available. I set the 720p or 1080p resolution for the output and then set the TV to the HDMI port input (instead of AV1). Nothing shows up. I also tried other two HDMI ports at my TV, but they donīt work either.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Lucky

lucky, did you set the source (i.e. what is going IN to your home theatre system) to output via hdmi?

Hey ccotenj, thanks for your reply,

actually I donīt have an option to set this- home theatre system (digital recorder + receiver) is getting the TV signal via regular antenna cable, it also plays dvds and the content, recorded to the HDD- the only HDMI connection is the connection between the digital recorder and the plasma TV (I donīt use set top boxes, etc. which could deliver HDMI signal to the digital recorder)...

Itīs strange, because HDMI indicator on Pioneer turns on only if I put the other end of the HDMI lead to the plasma display- so it obviously detects that there is a HDMI compatible device connected, but it doesnīt show picture :(

yea, it should recognize the device as hdmi, that doesn't appear to be the issue...

it "appears" as if the system isn't transcoding the "antenna" input to hdmi... unfortunately, i can't find a manual for it in english, so i can't look it up...

look in your manual for "transcoding" or "antenna input" or something along those lines...

alternatively, you might have somehow switched the resolution output to something your display won't take...

The problem is, I also donīt get the picture from DVDs or HDD content, not only from the TV signal. And i read my manual from the beginning to the end and vice versa, but still canīt find the trick which would help me out...

I am thinking of getting my Pioneer to the local tech shop and connect it with my HDMI cable to one of their plasma displays to see if it really outputs the HDMI signal or is it a problem in my TVīs HDMI inputs.

I set the Pioneerīs output to all possible resolutions- from 576p, 720p to 1080p and 1080i and test the signal at my TV but still didnīt get anything...

Is there a possibility that the HDMI lead is somehow bad? In the TVīs manual it is written that they suggest using Panasonic HDMI leads and that there is a HDCP protection, etc. But that is written in Pioneerīs manual too, so they should be compatible, I suppose...

yea, i found those...

ok, try this... on page 131 of the manual, there are instructions on how to change the output resolution via hdmi... try changing it to 1920X1080i or 1280X720p and see what you get...

hi,

How long is your HDMI cable?

The signal losses if the HDMI is over 15 meters.
