Hiya,

Well, I've followed all the BD/HDDVD performance bugs/issues/postive comments for a bit. So I don't need to know anymore :)

But I've yet to find a decent analysis of the upconverting abilities and implementation of the Reon scaler in the 5000.

Anyone have any comments or observations? Like the rest of you, I have a fairly extensive DVD collection. I also have a 100" screen, so good upconversation is important to me.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you!

Fred

Someone posted in the 5K owners thread that it was at par with thier Oppo. There have been mixed reports but over all it seems that it does upscalling well.

Perhaps. but that thread is so convoluted at this point, I thought it might be worthwhile to post a thread that solely addresses the topic of BD-UP5000 upconversation, and not HD or audio performance. :)

Greetings!
I owned the XA2, and one of the major reasons I considered the 5K was the Renon. To my eyes, on my Avical calibrated Samsung HL-S 6187W DLP, the upconverted picture from the 5K is equal to the XA2....
