Hi gang - A client wants us to upgrade his theater setup in his home. He would like a dual format HD-DVD/Blu Ray player.
Someone suggested the LG, but my reading here seems to suggest that the Sammy BD-UP5000 is marginally better.
Any other options - I have tried web surfing for more, but this place has uber-knowledge and I always turn to avs when I am all searched out... :)
Thanks, gang!
PS - He will be running a mitsu HC4900 projector, I think. Any other recommendations instead of it will also be appreciated! :)

I'm not an expert and don't own either unit but I have been reading a lot in this forum and it appears that the LG is marginally better at this point. There has been some image quality issues reported on the Sammy but I haven't heard anything on the LG so far. On the down side both units currently do not decode TrueHD multichannel only 2 channel.... Hopefully a firmware update will remedy this so I am holding out till one or the other can do it.

If your client can afford to have you shop for him, then he's probably looking for top quality. You can impress him with your knowledge by suggesting that he will get better quality and possibly even lower cost by going with separate players. There's BD players all over for <$400, and HD players for <$200. With the right AVR, he will get lossless HD audio this way which is currently not available with the dual players. So it's a win-win.

Not entirely true...the BD-UP5000 *will* bitstream PCM without a hitch. ;)

I find this debatable...there's just more interest in the Samsung and subsequently more owners. Both units have their problems.
