1394 from camcorder to pc? Via what?

Got a new Canon cam corder and need to figure out what I am going to do with the video I record? Do I keep on Mini DV tapes or upload to a pc? If I upload to a pc, looks like I need a firewire to upload to my pc? But of course I don't have a 1394 port on my pc...So can I go 1394 to usb? What do most of you guys do or use? Keep the mini dv tapes or upload to pc and if upload, how do you do it?

buy a cheap firewire card.

If you google firewire to usb adapter you'll see that there are some adapters out there but they cost more than a firewire card.

Just upload the movie using movie maker. It's from microsoft. You probably have it already.
