Hi everyone,

First and foremost thank you for these great forums! I have a small issue that is rather confusing to me and would appreciate any feedback. Four years ago I bought a Sony rear-projection television (KP-57WS510) with a HDTV-DVI input. I know that the DVI input is HDCP compliant, and it appears to be DVI-D; however, it's DUAL LINK. Until now I have been using an old DVD player with the television so I did not bother to buy any expensive cables, but recently I decided to upgrade to the Philips DVP5982 1080p up-converting dvd player and I have hit a hitch.

Here is where I get a little confused; the output on the Philips DVD player is HDMI, and the Sony TV has a DVI-D Dual Link input. What cable do I buy to make the DVD player work? I know it sounds quite silly, but I'm new to all of this and it's a little over my head. I have visited monoprice.com but I was unable to find a 15 or 20 foot HDMI Male to DVI-D (Dual Link) Male cable. I was wondering is it acceptable to use a DVI-D SINGLE LINK cable in a DVI-D DUAL LINK input?? If not does anyone know where I can find a 15 or 20ft HDMI Male to DVI-D (Dual Link) Male cable for an acceptable price? Or I might be missing something altogether completely... if that is the case please feel free to correct my judgment-I would be more than grateful!

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and I appreciate any help that you provide me with!

HDMI is single link so you won't find a HDMI > DVI Dual cable period.

The regular HDMI > DVI should work just fine.

thank you! But are you sure that the television will be able to pick up the signal? I just do not want to pay for something and not have it work. I appreciate your help though!

It'll work. Most HT resolutions are within DVI's single-link bandwidth limits. You might be limited in terms of resolution by what the DVI input will accept, and I think that DVI has never adopted deep color and whatnot, but it should work with conventional color depth and colorspace, and conventional resolutions, just fine.
