View Full Version : Can't Connect 5000 to my network...help...
dlgreen561 12-27-07, 07:37 AM Unlike my toshiba hddvd player (xa1) that worked on my network out of the box, this unit won't connect to the network. I am plugging ethernet port directly into my router. Any advice would be appreciated, especially from those that had issues and resolved it.

I am in the same boat.
dlgreen561 01-01-08, 12:32 PM With the amount of people that now own this unit, not one person can help with the network problems that a few of us are experiencing?
Do you get any sort of error messages? What are the symptoms? It's hard to diagnose without more detailed information.
One thing you could do is to log in to the web administration page of your router and see if it has assigned an IP address to the 5k.
2k4mach 01-01-08, 12:56 PM did have a problem when i 1st connected it. I just powered down the sammy and rebooted the router and its worked ever since.

Here is what I did. I simply ran an ethernet cable directly from my modem to the back of the sammy. No connection made. So now I go in and set all the IP stuff to what I get off my computer. I still get a message that it is not connected to the internet when I go to update it. Also the clock does not update either. Again IP information is coming from my computer.
Do you see a connection light on the router when you plug in the ethernet cable? Are you using a straight patch cable or a crossover cable? Have you tried a different cable or tried this cable somewhere else to make sure the cable works?

I am using a cable that works when I plug it into the computer. Does the sammy have to be connected to a router? I am connecting to the CABLE MODEM directly with a cable I know works. Thanks for your quick response.

Sounds like you are putting in a static IP. Just use DHCP = on under TCP/IP on the 5000. The 5000 should pull a IP from your modem. At least most work that way. I did not have any issues this way. Be sure to turn off the 5000 and start up again after the changes. Give us more details, what modem, is your pc set to obtain ip automatically?
Edit: possible per dkwong you have a crossover cable to work with the pc and need a straight one. Do the lights light?

If there is no link light on the router, switch, or hub for the connection, there may be a physical cable or network card problem. Computers with auto x-cross NICs will fix any straight or x-over cable problems. The samsung may not so used a straight cable when in doubt. Gig switches don't care about x-overs.
If you are connecting the unit straight to a cable modem, you need to recycle the power since the modem was last tied to the device it established a working connection. Basically, anytime a device that is directly connected to the cable modem is changed, a power cycle is needed.
If you have DHCP enabled on a router or integrated firewall, check the DHCP stats to see if the samsung is getting a dynamic IP. The samsung should be left on DHCP unless you are experienced with IP networking.
If the unit appears in the router/firewall DHCP dynamic IP list(lease file), try to ping it using a non-firewalled computer. If this fails, call Samsung tech support and hope those CSRs will provide "expertise". FYI, even huge networking companies like Cisco have a few "clowns" fielding calls. (supposed CCNPs & CCIEs)

Ok I got it to work. WOW. As long as I have been doing this I should know better and reset the dang modem. RESET THE MODEM and BAM. Time is updated and it will look for updates. Thanks
dlgreen561 01-06-08, 03:25 PM Once i finally connected, it took only 2 seconds to let me know that the firmware was current....One of these days we'll have a surprise..right?
George Kouzev 01-06-08, 03:28 PM yah, we will have a surprise for sure... I hope it will be all positive though :)
