View Full Version : Ruby Problem
Dossier 12-27-07, 08:28 AM My Ruby does not turn on at times-- about one out of three times. . With those failures there is a pinging as it tries to turn on then lamp/cover light goes on. If I unplug, it then turns on and looks fine. I have 1100 hours on the bulb, and get no bulb message. Any ideas?
When I had mine I had the same problem. I had to send it in for service and I think they put in new power supply but the problem was fixed. Here are some threads on the problem.

Alan Gouger 12-27-07, 12:05 PM A shot in the dark but someone posted to open the lamp cover and reset it again, that may help otherwise as kirkh said it may require servicing.
Dossier 12-27-07, 12:55 PM Thanks, both suggestions and threads are very helpful. If it persists, I will send it to service center
I wonder if this is the issue where Laredo 'prescribes' the hard start mod.

Angeli662 12-27-07, 10:26 PM I also noticed this on my Ruby a couple days ago when a replaced my lamp, I hear a click and nothing then when I shut it down and turn back on it starts fine.
I wonder if this problem is related to my Ruby being way to bright.

I doubt it, but have you applied Allan's 'Light Canon' settings by any chance??

bhuntatwork 01-01-08, 03:55 PM Had the same problem for the last month at around 1200 hours, although from time to time over the life of the bulb it has taken time to start. Got an event ID from SONY service then called Laredo directly. FYI they need an event ID to take the PJ in for service. Sending mine in next week after I have got through all the Academy Screeners as well as sending in my Pio 84TXSi for its HDMI/LFE upgrade.
FYI Laredo told me it would probably need the Hard Start Mod Kit!
Dossier 01-01-08, 08:40 PM Sony had been disconnect for 2 minutes. Since then, it is OK, but I assume it will reoccur
Dossier 01-02-08, 10:54 AM I spoke too soon. Each time i call sony service they tell me to disconnect 5 minutes, then it works after a long delay. When I complain, they tell me to try a new bulb.
kansashick 01-02-08, 10:59 AM What is the Laredo number for tech service.

Long time ago, many many times:cool:
Dossier 01-03-08, 09:18 AM I sent mine to Laredo today
bhuntatwork 01-29-08, 07:04 PM Well the hard start mod kit has been performed, they did try hitting me up for $999.99 for a new bulb but I already have one so told them not to bother. Will let you know whether the fix worked OK when the PJ gets back.
Laredo does good work and fast. I sent my Ruby in on a Friday and had it back by the following Thursday in California. In addition to fixing me with the hard start mod kit they replaced my lamp which was less than 30 days old and they replaced my entire optical block. Shipping may have knocked it more than a pixel off but I'm not complaining getting a new one. All in all it was a very positive experience. Ruby's been perfect ever since.
