I haven't attempted to staple into MDF or PB, but would think it would be tough with either. I would use pine, its cheap and easy to work with. If you have to use MDF, use a spray adhesive. 3M makes one (it's the general spray adhesive) and works great. Available at HD.

I've had no problems stapling into MDF. I'd recommend either an electric or air driven gun if you don't already have one.

Would GOM be an acceptable option for a front screen wall? How black can I get it? If so, what is the preferred method of attaching GOM to the front wall?

Sorry. monentary lapse of reason-my brain is mush trying to sort all this stuff out. Thanks for the link. I will not be going with a false wall like that one. Can I just glue it to the drywall? Where do you get this stuff?

Same here, I use an air stapler and it worked great with MDF.

GOM = Guilford of Maine
(http://www.guilfordofmaine.com/) They make acoustically transparent fabric suitable for hanging/mounting on walls.

I purchased the three gun pneumatic kit from Home Depot when I got to this stage in my home theater. It came with a pancake compressor, brad, staple, and finish nail guns. I used all three in the home stretch. I had no problem stapling GOM or speaker cloth to pine or MDF when making my columns, putting GOM on the wall or finishing off my front screen wall.
