I bought the DLP tv back in August. I just recently bought a toshiba A2 Hd dvd Player and own a Onkyo SR605 receiver. I also have the DVE disc on the way to house. Just ordered from Amazon. Does anyone have any tips that could help with audio and video calibration process. Like recommended settings that I set up on my tv before I calibrate w/ DVE (to make process easier). Also is there anyone has already calibrated their tv picture settings using or not using the DVE disc for movies that would like to share w/ me.

I'm taking any and all tips for calibrating my Audio and Video setup. Thanks!

You will get better results in the interim by just using a free test pattern like the THX optimizer found on most big name disney dvds and any star wars flick. In 5 minutes ... you will get better results than blindly copying down other peoples numbers based on different TVs and different DVD players.

You know I did that and it was the toughest thing ever. When I watched the disney movies, or Star Wars the picture was amazing. But when I watched Transformers, Batman Begins, The Departed or other movies. At times I felt the picture was either to light or too dark.

SO i was suggested the DVE disc, hoping that it would help.

Any other advice?

Greetings

Spend the $23 and get DVE HD ... and calibrate the TV to both SD and HD patterns.

Something that takes 5 to 10 minutes is hardly the toughest thing ever. Tuning up a car ... brain operations ... that's tough.

Get the TV calibrated to proper test discs ... gets you on your way. Although understanding and appreciating what an accurate image looks like may be something else.

Two components to calibration ... the doing part and the education part. The doing part with out the education part can often be meaningless too.

Thanks!

Also whats your thoughts on setting the blacklight for an LCD tv (I just bought) before calibrating the tv? I was told to put it at the lowest level before calibrating the tv so you can get the true black.

Backlighting. Setting depends on time of day you watch and room lighting. If in total light controlled location with proper real backlight (not the TV one) then set to min ...

If fighting daylight ... set to whatever works best. Everyone's situation is different. Backlighting does not change the optimal electronic settings for brightness or contrast.
