The two are very different in price and possibly application. The HD81-LV is Optoma's top of the range two piece very bright DLP projector with limited positioning. The Epson is an as yet not independently reviewed LCD with great specs and good buzz.

If this is your first projector, I would do a search and thorough read of the HD81-LV threads.

No-one complains about Optoma picture quality, but the reliability of their recent projectors, and especially the HD81, has been called into question.

From my experience, their customer service isn't the best either.

As a newbie, I'd start with something a little less high maintenance.

I have no experience with the HD81-LV, but my experience with the HD81 has led me to never buying another Optoma product. The picture is excellent but the noise is unacceptable and I have had 3 returns in one year. AVS will not even sell Optomas any more because of the reliability problems. Read the HD81-LV thread carefully before making your decision. There are plenty of Good and reliable projectors out there. Good luck.

About the price....Im in the UK and I find out the price of the 2 projectors are about the same ($4k-$5k).
I searched some threads and as far as I know, there are complain about noise of the 2 projector.
As I want to buy 1 for long term use, so I want to chose a good one without changing in near future.

To eridana: wat projector you think is a best one for the price of $4k to $5k?

The BenQ W10000 is supposed to be a bright projector. You could look into that one.

You should really consider the RS-1. I think it is the best bang for the buck and can be purchased for about $4000 new. I heard they just had another price drop.

There's no substitute for lumens if you have ambient light issues and/or white walls. I have a 1600-lumens projector now and get a much better image than I got with the 1000-lumens projector I had before.

How about the Infocus IN-82? The light output is quite good and the reviews seem quite positive. It is at the top of my list for my new theater.
