I've got a 5K and have had no problems playing DVD-R. I have tested DVD+R with mixed success. Others have stated that the playback of +R media depends on the "book" (or somesuch setting) type specified at the time of burning. It is possible to play back +R media and I must have lucked out as all the +Rs that I have in my small library of burned DVDs, play without issue.

I have not tested any RW -/+ media.
