Unfortunately, my first post here has to be one about a problem I noticed just recently. I have a 46 inch 71 series samsung TV, I love it by the way. This christmas i got a toshiba HD-A35 to pair with it, using a HDMI cable. I figured that now ive gotton into HD-DVD, i should go look around on the internet for some proper settings. i deceided to use the setting CNET used on their 71 series. i put in all the settings right, but when it said to put HDMI black level to "normal" i found that it was browned out and i could not highlight the option, just skip over it, and its stuck at "low" too. I found out that putting this option to normal should brighten up the picture, this is VERY important to me because I did notice most of the scenes in HD movies to be very dark.

so I call samsung to ask them about it, they said it was either a problem with the hdmi cable, or to call Toshiba and ask them about it. so i called toshiba, and they said that there should be nothing making the option on my tv unchooseable becuase of the DVD player, and they said it might be a problem with the HDMI cable too. so i got a new HDMI cable and it still dosnt work . so i've pretty much run out of options. any help?

btw, ive tried to change settings while watching an HDDVD and while not, no luck.

Regards,

Max

Greetings

Why don't you just calibrate the TV to a real test disc instead of blindly using other people's settings derived from different DVD players?

This takes all of 5 to 10 minutes. DVE HD is $22 ...

THX optimizers are "Free" ... included on THX discs.

The set needs to be in Movie mode to use most of the settings.
In standard and dynamic , many options are greyed out.

As Michael said try a calibration DVD too.

Yup ... the movie mode is a good place to start on Samsung sets for anywhere near decent OOTB settings.

well i found out that the toshiba hs-a**'s dont do HDMI black after reading around in the official 71 series forum. and i decided to use DRS1ONLY's (right name?) settings (in the official 71 series calibration thread) becuase they were highly recommened, i am very pleased now.
