Hey Gang,
I am format neutral. Is there a reason to pick one over the other?
Thanks!

View Full Version : Blade Runner: Ultimate - HD DVD or Blu? purduealum91 12-28-07, 02:13 PM Hey Gang, I am format neutral. Is there a reason to pick one over the other? Thanks! Tom wormraper 12-28-07, 02:17 PM Hey Gang, I am format neutral. Is there a reason to pick one over the other? Thanks! Tom there is literally no diff between the 2. Choose whichever one looks prettier, blu or red. No real issue which one you choose. Patsfan123 12-28-07, 02:17 PM They are identical in every which way.. Video encode, sound options(blu may have more dubs tho), and extras. Their is no advantage to either version so get what you want. HB GAMER 12-28-07, 02:24 PM If your indifferent than Support the Underdog. Plus IMHO the cover looks better in Red. I have the HD-DVD and the set is amazing. deckard0 12-28-07, 06:28 PM If your indifferent than Support the Underdog. Plus IMHO the cover looks better in Red. However, both are encoded at the same 640k bitrate and are sonically identical....its really just a naming convention in this case.... lgans316 12-29-07, 01:47 AM The biggest difference between both versions is BOOKMARKING facility. Averhoeven 12-29-07, 02:20 AM I'm going to be completely shallow here, but since there really aren't any substantial differences I guess it's legit. A red case fits the theme of the movie and the cover better than a blue one. A blue one messes with the color scheme, a red one fits right in. TV Casualty 12-29-07, 10:58 AM I wasn't aware that the DD+ (HD DVD) and DD (Blu) tracks were essentially the same. You learn something new every day. But yeah, the blue case looks awful with the artwork. Other than that, GO WHERE YOUR HEART TELLS YOU. Or whatever. wmaangel 12-29-07, 01:26 PM I wasn't aware that the DD+ (HD DVD) and DD (Blu) tracks were essentially the same. You learn something new every day. They are on Warner titles, because they use the same 640k bitrate, but this is not a hard and fast rule....the HD DVD spec requires a DD+ track at a minimum, which is why it does not get plain Dolby Digital like Blu-ray... I'm almost positive regular Dolby Digital tops out at 640k, while DD+ is not only a more "efficient" encoder, but supports higher bitrates like the 1.5mbps used on Paramount and Universal titles, which are in many cases sonically superior.... |
