Well I've had my ht1000 for almost five years now(can't believe that, just seems like yesterday I was researching it on this very site) and I now want a hddvd player and bluray to go with my xbox 360 and hi def dvr. I will be using a 106 diag. hi power screen, and with the new projector I plan to add a pull down screen for 2.35 movies(104" wide). I plan on buying a lens later, so for now I just use poor mans zoom for 2.35. 16 9 and 2.35 watching will be half and half. I will be in a bat cave, no light except from projector. I have read thread after thread, was interested in the new Mitsubishi 4900, but I think the blacks won't be black enough for me, but I am interested in the motorized lens and focus function. I'm thinking the Black Pearl would be a good fit. What do u think? Is the Black Pearl bright enough for a 104" wide 2.35 screen?

I have the black pearl shooting onto a 120 x 67.5 SMX screen 1.16 gain. For films in 1.85:1 I usually run it about 55 to 60 inches tall - 2.35:1 with lens at 120" wide. I have a batcave and find the BP and the Pearl (previous projector) to be plenty bright enough for these sizes on SMX.

Yes it should be especially given you have the high power now and for a screen that size for 2.35 you shouldn't have any issues either.

You should enjoy the picture also given that the VW60 can be calibrated perfectly to D65 if you choose for it to be.

why get two screens? Why not just get one big 2.35 and use a masking system?

I upgraded from the HT1000 to a (white) Pearl a year ago and have been using it in a poor mans CH set up since then (45" high- about 103" wide at max). Works well.
This is on a low/no gain screen of Blackout cloth too.

It is often cheaper just to use two screens rather than pay for a masking system, particularly if the height of the screens are different (would require 4-way masking or at least 3-way). Two screens also allows you to use screens of different gains for different AR's. Handy if you want a higher gain for scope viewing.

Well the hi power is a perm wall installed so it is going to stay. My bat cave is in a bonus room so the perm wall 106 diag screen is the biggest I can have with the sloped ceilings. But I can have a 104 inch wide scope screen if i mount it at the bottom and pull the screen up for viewing (it can fit my sloped ceilings if I keep it at the bottom of the wall). I think I am now going to go with the black pearl because I like all the adjustments it has. When I bought the ht 1000 it was the most adjustable then, so I like that feature.
