I am in the process of building my first dedicated home theater and have a dilemma! I am planning on putting all of my components in a storage room in my basement. They are going to be directly behind the wall that I have my Sony Bravia LCD mounted to. I plan on using an ir repeater, or an rf remote.

My dilemma is that I want to be able to load a DVD from the theater and not have to walk into the storage room every time. I am envisioning some sort of computer DVD drive mounted flush in the drywall with a custom trim ring to finish it off. Or taking a regular DVD player and mounting it to the back side of the drywall, and cutting out a slot for just the tray to come through the wall. I have searched for weeks and can't seem to come up with any installs like this, or any other ideas.

Any ideas or information would be GREATLY appreciated!

If you want to do that, why not just do a flush mounted equipment rack???

Once the project is finished and you have added the trim, I bet you'll be happy with the results!

Put a rack recessed in the wall to hold a HD dvd and Bluray, Or combo unit.

If you want it out of sight, hide it behind a hinged piece of art or framed movie poster .

Easy. Get a Middle Atlantic custom shelf and faceplate for the DVD player model you have, cut out a rectangular opening under your LCD (or wherever) and frame it for the shelf ears to screw or bolt to, trim it with a little moulding when you are done. Slide the DVD player into the shelf and you're done. Simple carpentry and it will look custom along with doing what you need as far as having access.

Here is what it looks like with a whole rack, you can replicate this on a smaller scale with just one or two components and whatever trim you like. I like cherry personally. I've actually got a smoked tempered glass door on order for this, so the lights don't show and the fan noise from the 360 is minimized. I really like being able to turn around and see what my equipment is doing since I'm constantly tweaking and messing with it. If I had to get up and leave the room everytime I adjusted something I would wear a path in my carpet.

Those are good ideas, but I don't think I have enough room on the front wall with the lcd, 3 inwall speakers, and a fireplace in the corner.
Besides, how cool would it be to press a button on the remote, and out from the wall comes a dvd tray!

Not very cool unless it's a HD dvd/Bluray combo drive. Once you start watching HD you will never want to go back.

That's still an option.

What type of seating are you going to have? Could you mount the dvd player under one of your seats and just run the a/v cables to your rack?

Are you running a HTPC? If so, you could use an external drive or maybe the Xbox 360 with the HDDVD drive.

Are their any drives that decode the video and audio?

LOL, this is an old post, any updates? I personally need to hide a blu ray and no room for anything except a "up and down" in the wall unit. For example a computer dvd player, instead of being horizonal, vertical ;)

Another solution would be a unit to put on a night stand >>> http://www.samsung.com/us/video/blu-ray-dvd/BD-D7500/ZA

Well, there's the Samsung wall-mountable unit...

(can't vouch for the quality of the unit, but it does look nice on the outside at least. :D)
