I have just purchased the PDP-4280HD but haven't had it delivered yet. My intention was to put it in an existing wall unit (oak) measuring 30"H x 48"W x 24"D. Based on the dimensions of the 4280, it leaves me with 2" above and below, 3-1/2" on each side and about 15" in back. There is no venting (currently). I downloaded a Users Manual from Pioneer's website and found out that they recommend not putting it in wall units and they also say that there should be 19" clearance above the unit. Unfortunately, the salesperson didn't tell me this even though I told him my restrictions.

Has anybody had problems with restricted ventilation with the Pioneers? Would it be sufficient to put a fan behind the TV and blow it outwards? I don't really want to cancel the order but it can only go in this location.

Well since you can only use this location to place the TV, you're going to have to make provisions for drawing the heat from the rear of the cavity no matter what kind of TV you get, so you may as well stick with the Pioneer and install some sort of exhaust fan setup. I particularly like this kit:

The "cavity" has a brick fireplace on one side, a wall (inaccessible) behind, closed cabinets above, closed cabinets below and an open cabinet to the other side. I guess that I may be able to put one into the open cabinet but my wife wouldn't be too happy. Definitely not the 13" fan but maybe the single 6-1/2" fan. Would it be sufficient to have a fan that just circulates air in the back and maybe put "wedges" at the top back corners to angle the air out to the front?

Any more opinions? I'm supposed to take delivery on January 9th and if I follow Pioneer's recommendations, I should be cancelling my order.
