I just swapped out my Infocus In76 with the Sony VW50 the other day. I have only had the VW50 up for a day and a half and most of the viewing I have been doing has either been through the HD-A20 or the PS3.

Last night I watched the NE vs. Giants game using my DirecTV HD TiVo receiver (HR10-250). I have to say that the picture was very impressive when the players were just standing around before the play began but once the play started and there became lots of fast movement the picture started looking real bad. It was very blocky…not sure what the right words are to describe what I was seeing. I never noticed this issue with my In76.

Is there some sort of setting I need to adjust??

My current video setup is:
HD-A20
PS3 (60g)
DirecTV HR10-250
Pioneer VSX-82TXS (switcher)
Sony VPL-VW50

I have everything running through the Pioneer via HDMI. The DirecTV receiver is set to 1080i. I tried to turn on and off the video conversion on the Pioneer to see if that made a difference with no luck.

Any suggestions for a relative newbie?

The problem you are seeing is most likely the source.Directv(and all other cable/sat providers use a high degree of compression.Still images look fine but the more motion/action the less stable the picture becomes and you have "motion blur".You will see very little or none at all w/ blu-ray and hd-dvd. Remember too that with a large projection screen this is easier to spot.I have the VW50 in a downstairs CIH theater and the VW60 upstairs in my main theater.I have noticed the same problem w/directv but not as much as in the past. If you watch espn on ch 73-try ch. 206(mpeg4) Ron:)

i use HR10-250 with a vw50 as well and saw the same game last nite but with an OTA HD antenna into HR10. It was a very clean picture throughout the game so i got to believe the issues you were seeing were with the source - even HD from directv is heavily compressed - also the HR10 only has MPEG2 decoders for directv and not MPEG4 which is supported in the newer directv boxes.

Thanks for the replies.

I watched some more HD football this afternoon and the picture was fine. I think that maybe last nights broadcast was just poor quality. Makes me feel a little better!
