View Full Version : UK (NTSC Compatiable) TV Bad Audio Over Coax

I have a British Philips TV (non HD) that accepts both NTSC and PAL signals, however when we plug Dish Network into the TV via Coax I get a good picture but extremely inconsistent sound. I can only get sound by manually fine tuning away from the clearest picture, however even when I store this frequency the sound does not return the next time after I switch on.

(Things work fine with component video leads but the run is sadly too far).

Any suggestions - are UK and US UHF audio carrier frequencies differerent?

Thanks,

Is there a switch/menu item for changing from PAL to NTSC, or does the set autoselect? It sounds to me like the TV is still expecting PAL signals. I saw the same phenomenon when I was stationed in Spain in the 1970s. We had a closed-circuit cable TV channel (Armed Forces Network) on base for programming on our dayroom's NTSC set. You could use its tuner to get picture or sound from Spanish stations, but not both at once.
