I was under a understanding that whether I use 75% or 100% color that your x,y should remain the same but your Y, should change..I did a couple of runs using the new free download test patterns from HWJohn - running both of them and for some reason all change..So how is one to decide when to use 75% or 100% when setting either gamut or color decoder??

Are you using the AVCHD or HD DVD versions? How much are your xy coordinates changing?

Even with DLPs, we have noticed a slight shift as you run up into the upper reaches of signal levels. Part of this is going to be due to the repeatability of your meter, and part of it is actual non-linearity in the display.

DLP displays are inherently linear - mfg's have to distort them during design to get them nonlinear!

You have to decide if the cost to get 75% and/or 100% right - if you can do it at all - is worth it. I personally get them all right when I can - because highlites being off just makes for good marketing numbers - but customers can see it. Just did one resulting in lousy contrast (needed to turn it way down to avoid color shifting) - customer raves about it because clouds no longer have miscolored hotspots. I would much rather have perfect D65/REC709 across the board with sufficient brightness and let contrast fall where it must.

I have a feeling that the difference is going to be due to the factors that Bill cited.

alluringreality have checked the discs about as extensively as we can, both in the digital domain (we hand check the YPbPr values on disc) and by measuring and comparing between other discs/TVs/players.

Let us know what you find.
