OK, this a probably a basic question that is widely known and answered on this board but I could not find it:

We have watched our first BluRay title POTC: At World's End, on the PS3. It is hooked up to a previous generation Yamaha Reicever that is capable of 5.1 DD (our setup) via optical cable. When you play the disc, while going through the features, the receiver shows "Dolby Digital 5.1", however, as soon as the Movie starts, "ProLogic" is displayed.

Is this expected? Or is there a way that I can force 5.1? Or don't I want to...

Thanks in advance for any insight on expected audio of BluRay/PS3 played through an older reciever that handles DD5.1?

Where do you set that? In the PS3 menu? As mentioned in my post, the receiver does show "Dolby Digital" but as soon as the movie starts (beginning credits) the indicator switches to "ProLogic"

And also remember to select the DD5.1 track from your movies audio menu. :D If the movie defaults to the LPCM5.1 track, your reciever will only get it as PCM2.0 and might try to apply ProLogic mixing.

Be sure you weren't playing around with the remote's audio button. The "English 1" track is uncompressed and will revert to PLII on receivers that can't handle it or are not hooked up correctly. It is actually the "English 2" track that is the DD track.

It will revert to 2.0 PCM and receivers will apply whatever processing they're set to apply to 2.0 PCM to be specific.
