Hey AVS'ers, here's the deal..

We're moving into a rental house with a nice bug living room with a fairly small fireplace (apporox 29"H x 36"W) smack dab in the focal point of the room. Obviously, we want our HDTV to be that focal point and the decorating and furniture need to all be based around the placement of the TV.

Being that there is no mantle and top of the fireplace is roughly 29" from the floor, the viewing height would be more than comfortable for the seating we have. However, I asked the new landlord if he was cool with us doing a PDP brick/concrete mount over the FP, he said he would not allow it. To further complicate things, my wife wants to be able to use the FP so shutting down the FP and installing a big entertainment center in front most likely won't fly.

So, the question is, what are my options? I'm thinking like a small footprint style table (maybe half moon style) that "straddles" the FP opening to allow access to the FP but is hopefully low key enough to fit in with a modern black and aluminum decor.

Suggestions? Thanks!

Can you post pics of your room? That might help.

Without seeing anything, and seeing as how it's a nice bug [sic] living room, can the tv not be placed anywhere else in the room?
