We just bought a PS3 80GB and watched a couple of Blu-Ray movies on it. First one (Spiderman 3) worked fine, but "Cars" froze a couple of times. Had to press the chapter forward/reverse buttons a couple of times and go to the next chapter to get past it. Audio sync was lost a couple of times as well and I had to restart my receiver (Rotel 1057) to clear that up.
Somebody else here had posted issues with "Cars" and that turned out to be a 1080p compatibility problem. My projector is a BenQ 6200 and only supports up to 1080i, so that's what I enabled on the PS3 (in addition to 480p/720p).
The disc itself looked clean (rented from Netflix), but I'll try cleaning it before the kids watch it just to be sure.
Any other ideas?
Have you installed the latest update (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/About/SystemUpdate) (2.10)?
maybe a defective disk?? I didn't have any problems playing it. Make sure you have the latest firmware too.

I also had no trouble with the main feature on my PS3.
The Auto extra thing caused my system to show some "hiccups" though.

Due to my childrens incredible infatuation with this movie I have played it probably 10-15 times on my 80gb PS3. I have had no playback problems at all. Many of these were before firmware 2.1
The disc always says it may take 2-3 minutes to load, then only takes 10-15 seconds on the PS3.

"Casino Royale" was even worse, freezing and/or skipping forward repeatedly. Tried cleaning the disc in between, and lowering the resolution to 720p and even 480p, and it still acted up again towards the end of the movie.
Afterwards I checked the firmware and discovered that it was 1.93. Since this thing came straight from Sony right before xmas, I had assumed it to be up-to-date. Well, after updating the firmware to 2.1, I tried "Casino Royale" again, and it did not freeze up like before in chapter 2, but it still paused several times and it still skipped, albeit not as far forward as before.
I love the picture quality of Blu-ray even on my non-1080p projector, but this takes the fun out of movie watching. I'll contact Sony tomorrow to see what they suggest.

I can't get my children to stop playing games long enough to watch a movie. :( We got the PS3 on Christmas morning and have watched exactly two movies.

I don't think there were any issues playing "cars" BD on ps3 since this movie was release way before FW 2.10. I'm thinking it might be your player.

Yeah, I have the 40 gig PS3 and played Casino Royale and Cars flawlessly. Hate to chime in and say it's probably your player, but...well...y'know.
