Happy New years from Hartland Michigan, we woke up to 12" of snow this morning!!

I've decided on the Sony VW60 as my Front projector for various reasons.

I have been considering the Denon 4308CI or Onkyo 905, I've read the Denon 4308 vs. Onkyo 905 thread thourghly. Seems most people there are picking the Onkyo for its "better" video upscaling.

My question is from a video viewpoint which one will give me better video?

Or, is the video scaler inside the Sony superior to what is in either of the units I'm considering and it does not matter?
(I've done some searches for this question but can't find it)

My video sources.
I have OTA outside antenna and plan on buying a digital tuner, plus Comcast HD service here in Hartland, Michigan.
Have not bought a DVD player yet, on the fencepost of getting a OPPO unit now and a HD or BlueRay unit sometime soon.

Thanks for your help.

I would wager the Reon processor in the Onkyo would be superior to the internal processor in the VW60, especially for video source content.

Having said that, the VW60's processing is not terrible, and the differences will be subtle for most content.

What sources are you talking about?

I use a 4308 with a VW60 and I don't use scaling at all except for one video source, which is a music server with s-video output. All other sources are either 1080i (satellite and upscaling DVD) or 1080p (HD DVD, Blu-ray). All sources except the server are also HDMI, so I don't use transcoding on those sources either.

I actually ordered the 4308 one week ago along with the VW60, and expect it any day now, my only issue is SD TV (Non HD channels from Comcast, like Disney, Spike, etc. ) looking "bad" on my 100" screen. I'm not worried about HD source material or even DVD upscaled info.

Am I overly concerned?

I think you have to really think about what the source will be and if it will output HDMI 1.3 . In the case of HDMI you needn't worry about the processors in the receivers.
I chose the Pioneer Elite BDP-95 FD and their reciver VSX 92 TXH. I use the receiver to power three Krell Power amps driving seven Dynaudio Contour Speakers. I am very satisfied with the VW 60 and this duo from Pioneer. My planning revovled around making sure that all three devices were HDMI 1.3 compatible. I use Cobalt Cable HDMI.
I use a Iscan VP 50 to further enhance the picture. The result is truly spectacular. That SONY is gorgeous. If you are getting these high end components then it is better to use HDMI and not component cable because you will need the processors in the receiver and they are usually not that good. I think you should base your choice on HDMI compatibilty in this day and age. Make sure all links in the chain are compatible and there are no handshake issues if usind HDMI
For the truly technically minded... The Iscan 50 is not HDMI 1.3 compatible so I feed it from the receiver i.e Hi Def Sat, Xbox 360 with HD DVD and the Pioneer Elite player. Hope this helps.

I don't have any plans on spending $$$ for an outboard scaler, so I'll live with the Sony VW60 and the Denon 4308CI hooked up soley via HDMI. I did run component cable before the drywall went up (which just happened Saturday 1/5/08), "just to be safe", along with 2 runs of Cat5.
