I was trying to experiment with the "light cannon" on my Ruby. The instructions for going into service mode on another thread are:

Hit:

enter
enter
left
enter
up

<end>

which should bring one to the service menu. I have tried this multiple times with no luck. My Ruby is about six months old.

Any suggestions?:confused:

Try this
"The service mode is accessed by pressing on the remote (enter) (enter) (UP arrow) (DOWN arrow) (enter), then (UP arrow) when it asks "do you want to enter the service mode?"

The factory mode is accessed by pressing on the remote (enter) (enter) (LEFT arrow) (enter), then (UP arrow) when it asks "do you want to enter the factory mode?"
"

In my experience as already stated you can only do this on the remote, not at the side access panel.

This does not put you directly in the service menu. Once you run the correct coed hit menu. You will see an extra list at the end of thye menu. Thats the service menu.
Proceed at your own risk. Copy all data before making any changes.

There are two different menus besides the user menu, service and factory. I'm not sure what the "light cannon" on the Ruby is, but you're probably referring to modifying the iris to let more light pass through it in brighter scenes. Factory mode will do it for that, and the posted combination should work when it's entered via remote. Make sure you're entering the combination quick enough. Then hit menu on the remote, you'll notice another menu marked with a "F" for factory. In there, I think it's among the "other" options somewhere in the #40s.

In addition to writing down all data, be sure you know what you're doing. Tweaking the wrong parameters can fry your panels and the warranty would be void...

The instructions state that one should not save the new settings. Why? If resetting #44 to 100 improves the picture, why would one not want to save the change? (after copying all settings in case of mess up). Also, I thought that I wanted the service menu but Stephan suggests that I want to access the factory menu. :confused:
