Here is my situation...

A couple of years ago, I ripped open the wall to run cables to my ceiling mounted projector. In those analogue days, I put in a VGA, Composite and S-video cable - nothing digital.

Now, I want to add an HDMI cable, but don''t want to rip the wall open again.

I was wondering if there is any way to use the VGA cable to send HDMI. I don''t want to convert - I have HDMI at both ends, but no cable.

Also - is it worth it. Will I see the difference from VGA?

Thanks

No, there's no way to use that VGA cable for HDMI. HDMI has too many conductors (19) and is very picky about correct impedance, and user-solderable connectors aren't available.

It's hard to say whether it'd be worth it without plugging in an HDMI cable and seeing; chances are very good that it would make little or no difference, and it's as likely to look better as VGA as it is to look better as HDMI.
