Has anyone hooked up a Wii with their VW60? How easily is this done and how was the resolution. I am in the process of having my home theater room built and was thinking about this. As well, how is this all wired - do i just connect the Wii to my AV receiver - just purchased the Pioneer Elite VSX92txh.

thanks for your help!

You'll want to purchase a Wii component cable so you can get the best picture out of the Wii (480p.) A lot of people do this and are satisfied with the results on a big screen. However, you shouldn't expect a super high quality picture like an xbox or PS3 can put out.

I would hook the Wii up to your receiver vs. directly to the projector.

You may need to get a wireless sensor bar if the Wii will be too far away from the screen to work. There are several on the market that you can find with a google search.

Bottom line: Wii on a big screen = Big fun

How well does the wireless sensor bar work especially with a giant screen? I noticed over the weekend with a new WII, we had some difficulty with the wired bar as it was not quite back at the screen level. I hadn't played with a wii yet so I didn't know what to expect. Thanks for any input!

Thanks - i plan to go out and get one (wish me luck) and set it all up. My HT should be done by the end of Jan so here's hoping all goes well!

thanks

Plus make sure you go into the Wii's set up menu and tell it to send out 480p.

I bought the 91TXH with my VW60. :) I too am curious how the Wii will look at 110".

It looks good at 110+" at 480P. It reminds me of the look of the VGA out Dreamcast (which looked great for what it was). Now compared to PS3 and XBOX 360, it doesn't look that great.

I find that hard to believe. I havent seen it on anything bigger than a 55" but that looked horrible.

I have a Wii on a 106" screen with a Sony VW50 Pearl. I agree that the Wii on a big screen is big fun. We have had great times playing Wii sports and Tiger Woods with family and friends. However, the PQ is OK at best, especially compared to games on the PS3.:)

BTW, I found that you don't need to use the sensor bar when playing Wii Sports. Try it.

I have a VW50 and while I would agree there is only so much you can do to scale a 480p image up to 1080p, I have been thus far impressed with whatever proprietary scaler it uses.

I played a lot of guitar hero on the PS/2 with 480p output, and while it didn't reach the quality of an Xbox 360 or a PS/3, it looked pretty decent considering the horrible source image the Pearl had to deal with.

Not only that, I have repeated done lag calibrations for GH3 on the 360 and have consistently measured between 0 to 20ms. I was damn impressed since I have to activate no special game mode or anything, it's just fast as hell as far as scaling and image processing is concerned. Definitely a big plus for Wii play as any additional lag on the wiimote would make the games less fun.

I have a Denon AVR-4806 upgraded for 1080p with a Farouja video processor, and in every case, the Pearl video processor beats it. I pass through all signals to the Pearl natively now and let it's video processor do the work.

I'm glad to hear that because I'm passing through everything through my 91TXH straight to my VW60 instead of upgrading to the 92TXH which uses the same Farouja chips.

The better games look better than the WII sports and Play. Mario Galaxy looks very good to me. You can tell that it is 480P, and it pales in comparison to the HD consoles out there, but YMMV.

One last thought.... A good scaler/processor will make a big difference on how the Wii looks on your display also. The VW60 has a very nice processor for that.

Okay, ive only seen Wii sports i think. The one that has the tennins Wiimote game in it. It was less than impressive on a Sony 55" sxrd rptv.

I am addicted to playing Wii sports on my 119 inch screen from a Sony Ruby. However, I recommend you get a preamp or receiver that will up-convert the signal to 1080p. That will make a huge visual difference. I have my Wii set up to send out 480i over component to my Anthem AVM50. It then scales everything up beautifully to 1080p. I recommend that you do that because as I understand it, you want to send the native signal to anything that will be up-converted so your not de-interlaceing and then scalling.. and yada yada yada.

Also, I have they wireless Nyko bar for the Wii. 15 bucks, best purchase you can make!

Well um. I guess I should say, that I found the scaler/de-interlacer in the VW-50 to be better than the run-of-the mill Farouja chip that's in my Denon. I am awaiting the return of my VPL-VW50 and I think I had better take a more comprehensive look at what the scaler in my receiver can do. I may have trashed on it too quickly. I am still impressed with the video processing in the PJ and I doubt this user will have any complaints about his VPL-VW60 doing the work. I don't think it's worth the money to upgrade to a receiver with scaler with one of these Sony Projectors, but if you have dedicated hardware for scaling that's a different story.

I guess I can't speak for any of the Denon products, but the scaler I use is brilliant. It impresses me more each and everyday. But I would still be happy with the projectors ability to scale as well, I've seen what the 50 and 100 projectors can do and they do a better job than most scalers out there, I agree with you there.

But its the Wii... it isn't gonna look like a ps3 or xbox game and it doesn't need to. Wii Sports is an amazing game. That tennis is serious!

Agreed, the Wii doesn't need to look any better than it does. I've all but stopped playing my Xbox 360 since I got Super Mario Galaxy.

Wii games look better on my VW50 when I output 480i versus 480p. I guess the Sony projector does a better job of deinterlacing than the Wii?

I need to look into a wireless Nyko bar - never heard of it before. Thanks for the heads-up.:)

I don't have a projector/screen yet, but I am investigating getting one. (No idea which one yet, BTW.) One of the concerns I had was where to put the sensor bar -- even the Nyko wireless sensor bar. Do you attach it to the actual screen and remove it whenever the screen is raised?

I bought the wireless bar. The Wii is in a closet behind the screen and yes the VW60 scales the Wii image very nicely. The image is no where as clear and clean as my 360's image but it is just as good as any of the upscaled DVD's that we play from our HDA3 HD-DVD player. I've been very impressed with the VW60's ability to scale nearly any source. Even standard cable's compressed SD Disney Channel looks clean. All that said, the Wii would be a better system if it was HD capable. I can't help but think that if I could smash the 360 together with the Wii, that we would have the ultimate gaming center, MCE platform on the planet. Maybe Microsoft buys Nintendo... That would kill Sony... I digress. The VW60 upscales the Wii very nicely even at 110" of screen.
