Hey everyone. Sorry to ask 2 "noob" questions but I can't not figure out what to do. I run a XBOX 360 PRO and TVersity. My questions for everyone is this...
1: What program do you guys use to rip a DVD movie onto your computer WHILE maintaining 5.1 surround sound?
2: What format do you use?
I would make the assumption that XVID/Divx is best. I just don't know how to make sure the movie will be in 5.1 surround sound when it is streamed.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I use DVD Decrypter to rip and AutoGK to encode to XviD.
You can get them at doom9.org and autogk.me.uk, respectively.

rip w/ dvd decrypter or smartripper
convert with divx converter (part of the divx create bundle, divx.com, not sure about 5.1 ease) dr. divx (freeware, also divx.com), or autoGK

DVD Decrypter won't work well (at least without something like RipIt4Me or some legwork on your own) with any of the newer protection schemes (like any Sony title that's come out since it was killed). I've gone to DVDFab HD Decrypter, since Sony had RipIt4Me killed & Macrovision got DVD Decrypter.

I use DVD fab platinum for everything.....
I just got AnyDVD ($) to rip and AutoGordianKnot (Free) to encode to Divx/xVid.
So far, so good.

DVDecrypter has always worked well for me, even with RipIt4Me for the newer Sony stuff. It's a versatile program that does everything I need it to. After that, I use DVD Shrink, encode and burn with Nero, and you're all done.
Anydvd and Clone dvd 2. Can't beat it. Updates about every week to stay ahead of the game.:D:D

Another vote for Clone DVD. It's not cheap but worth it.
