This seems like a really good fit for my personal needs since I'm in the market for a PC to connect to my HDTV anyway. I've seen PCs that will drive a 1920x1080 display at Fry's for 550-800 dollars, but this one is unique since it includes the BD/HD DVD player, and since its smaller, slimline.
We were planning on sitting on the sidelines for the BD/HD battle. We watch HD movies on cable, HBO, Showtime, and occasional PPV. And we still buy an occasional DVD.
But dual format makes a lot of sense, except that the dual format players I looked at last month were too expensive. If they can put a dual format player in a PC, than the price for dual format should also be coming down.
In concept, it sounds pretty good. But what about implementation? That always the fly in the ointment.

I have no background on the current samsung 5000 dual BD/HD format problems, but after reading a little, I'm convinced that this dual format HD/BD DVD PC is probably misprint. I don't think it can be real, at that price, given that no other dual format PC's are out there. And the Samsung 5000 problems mean that dual format isn't quite ready for prime time yet.
So, I think its a typo; perhaps HP's Pavilion Slimline s3330f PC comes with an HD-DVD player though.

Huuh?! I have had a dual format HP HTPC for about 6 months. It cost more like $1900, but they ARE available and have been for some time. Check the HTPC part of the forum.
BTW, dual format HTPCs are also not w/o their problems. I have both that and the 5000 so with luck what does not work on one, will work on the other.

Do you have any links with information on PC's with dual format bd/hd players in them, along with maybe an incompatibility listing?
Our original plan was to stick with HD-Cable, for 2008, without buying a BD or HD player this year. But we could use a new computer that connected to the big screen .... and if I can get the PC with a combo BD/HD player for another $200 dollars.....

Thanks for the link.
The recent example of the Sam 5000 release proves that there is considerable demand for a good dual format "something", so if AVS people report that this thing works anywhere near flawlessly, HP could have a very poplular product on their hands. That's a pretty big "if", however.
BrundleFly 02-11-08, 02:59 PM I was wondering if anyone can provide a review of this...or if they have seen it in action. I am seriously considering purchasing it and am jonesing to back up my DVD and create a DVD Jukebox.
Thanks everyone!
