View Full Version : R6 Vegas SINGLE PLAYER....
swirvin 01-03-08, 11:24 AM how good was it? ive been playing multi-player since may and kinda realized that i havent even started a single player campain. i went straight to multi-player.
so, since its the holidays, and the live is still wonky for me, should i fire up the single player or start the orange box ive had sitting in the wrapper since release day?
do you think it would be worth it since ive played so much online?
assasyn 01-03-08, 11:28 AM I loved the campaign. You could have already found out if you liked in the time it took to post this. I loved it from the 1st level.
deedubbadoo 01-03-08, 11:28 AM I thought the single player campaign was very good, kinda of short but still fun. Although if you are asking whether to play R6 Vegas or Orange Box, I think you are going to have a lot of people leaning towards Orange Box simply because of Portal and TF2. If you haven't played either of the Half Life episodes you are going to be at it for a while, so I would run through R6 Vegas first then focus on the "goodness" that is, The Orange Box.
Hope that helped.
HeadRusch 01-03-08, 11:30 AM Depends, if you like Online because of its fast-paced gameplay then no, you'll hate playing SP, where its you against overwhelming odds of bots so the game is all about moving and finding cover and engaging in firefights. More scripted, less Chaos like in Multi.
R6 has one of the best SP campaigns out there, IMHO, and you can play the missions co-op and get achievements for it, too.
Orange Box contains HL2, HL2: Episode ONe and HL2:Episode Two, three of the best single player FPS's ever. Great graphics, great fun.
swirvin 01-03-08, 12:33 PM thanks for your input re4de2ye0 and headrusch, i'll keep it in mind.
as for ASSasyn, he're a new sig for you....
Everyone makes 6 figures and bench presses 450 lbs. on the internet AND acts like a cool guy even though he's a puss....
for your info, im not even HOME at the moment so NO, i couldnt have fired it up and found out. either way, typing what i did took 15 seconds, my 360 takes longer than that to turn on. "i loved the campain" would have sufficed, no need to make yourself look like a cool interweb guy, who are you trying to impress with a comment like that?
properbostonian 01-03-08, 12:39 PM I loved the R6V campaign. I played it through twice. Once on normal and once on the most difficult setting, which was quite the challenge for me.
Regarding The Orange Box, my brother, who is the real gamer in the family, thinks HL2 (on the PC) is one of the best video games/stories ever made.
I started it, and liked it, but I have been consumed with Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed as of late.
benjamin-benjami 01-03-08, 01:27 PM as far as single player goes, HL2 is the best SINGLE player ever, not just my opinion but a lot of people would agree...

That's not how I meant it to come across, I apologize. I meant that I enjoyed the game that much from the start.
darklordjames 01-03-08, 05:56 PM Half-Life 2 is bad. Fortunately, you don't need to have played it to enjoy the awesomeness that is HL2: Episode 1 and 2. I would play the Orange Box, starting with Portal, then HL2:EP1, HL2:EP2, then finally maybe going through HL2. After the two Episodes you may appreciate the background info you get out of HL2.
In RB6 Vegas, I never got past the 2nd level. The save system is just unforgiving. One would think that the checkpoint system would save after every major encouter, but really there are only 2-4 checkpoints in a level. This resulted in me replaying the same 30 minute section twice. Upon dying and having to start it a third time, the disc left my 360, never to return. It's too bad to. The game played really nicely and I was enjoying myself.
Seriously though. Go play Portal right now. It's 3 hours long, but is the best 3 hours of gaming to come out of 2007.
Mw182006 01-03-08, 06:37 PM I liked it enough to play through again and beat on realistic difficulty, but some people haven't mentioned that it's very tactical and essentially team-based through much of it, which might turn some people off. You usually have two teammates with you that you have to direct in firefights, defend, and heal when they're wounded. It makes for a different and fun experience (for me), but they aren't always the brightest in the bunch.
